The event of the year!  The Amigos de Animales of La Ribera is having their annual Bean Soup & Salad fundraising dinner at La Trinidad Restaurant in La Ribera. Baja Night Sky Correction: Several careful readers caught a mistake in Monday's Baja Night Sky Lunar Eclipse report. While the moon passes through Earth's shadow during a lunar eclipse, it can only happen if the Earth is between the Sun and Moon. I described a solar eclipse with the Moon between Earth and Sun. That happens April 29th, but you will have to travel to Antarctica or Australia to see it. Sometimes star gazers become moonstruck. So to make up for that error, here is a neat word for you with three y's lined up in a row just like the Sun, Earth and Moon during an eclipse: syzygy. Books 4 Kids.  This post is to explain why all the requests for juvenile and teen books from Dave Love, a tutor in English, and is particularly addressed to parents who are looking ahead for the future well being and happiness of their school-age children or grandchildren. It is distressing to note that fewer Am. and Ca. kids nowadays are voluntarily reading novels written in grammatical classical English than in our generation. This will, of course, affect their chances for upper-level slots in the hiring market down the line. From carpenter to CEO, a command of grammatical English is, always has been, and will be, the difference between good income, social position and knowledge of our world (able to make informed decisions). Classical lit for youth is cleverly written to ensnare the young mind into A Great Adventure, while using elegant and grammatical English at an appropriate age level. One cannot speak or write proper grammatical English without exposure to good literature.  If a kid hides under the covers at night past bedtime, reading the latest chapter in the Hunchback of Notre Dame, or Tom Swift, etc.,  with a flashlight, this is a good thing. And by the way, the emphasis here is on hard copy paper — not Kindle, etc., which has neuron growth issues.
