I recently visited the amerimed in cabo with mixed feelings. They wanted to give me tests that had nothing to do with what I went in there for in the first place. They originally told me that in order for my insurance to pay for it I was required by the insurance company to stay 24 to 48 hours in the hospital there. I did not have a problem that required hospitalization, so obviously I questioned this. In the end I was charged a very reasonable price, which I paid, after telling them I have lived here for years and was not a tourist. I returned home, called my insurance company and they told me they had a deal with amerimed and they could of billed them and they have no requirement that you stay in the hospital for the time amerimed stated to me. Amerimed called my insurance also before I saw the doctor, so they knew the scoop but was not honest with me about it. Because of my concern I saved my insurance company a lot of money, which they really appreciated and didn't buy into the get the gringo/insurance money. I would suggest anyone that does have insurance to call them before going to amerimed and see what they say about tests, billings, etc. so you know the truth before you arrive.

a. Do you like Chinese food? We had a great meal at the new Chinese Restaurant near Los Planes. I ordered a combo for two people and Greg ordered a combo for two. The table was covered with 9 different dishes, all the food tasted great, enough for 5 people, we also had 2 cokes and 2 beers all for 350 pesos. The Restaurant is located on the road to La Paz from Los Planes. After leaving San Antonio go to the "T" turn left, the green building on your right side just before the Pemex is the Restaurant. Bon Appetit

b. Four of us made the journey north to El Cardonal for the grand opening of Octavio's Family restaurant.
The food was outstanding, especially the shrimp stuffed empanadas. It will be well worth the trip just for those.
We're looking forward to making Mar y Tierra a part our regular restaurant rounds.

c. We went to Mar y Tierra restaurant grand opening. What a great time was had by all. Food was great and the atmosphere very pleasant. Take a drive to El Cardonal and try out the Mar y Tierra, you will not be disappointed.

e. In La Ribera. I would like to take this opportunity to recommend a little restaurant called Costa Del Mar located one block east of me, towards the public beach access. I am in no way affiliated with them. It is simply a great little Mexican Taco Stand that everybody thanks me for recommending. Everybody. I have not heard one bad comment. They have a little bar too. Closed Mondays. Mexican Food at Mexican Prices. Enjoy.

a. where to buy gluten free
My name is Les Carmona.
I have a bakery in downtown La Paz known as Pan D'Les
I have gluten free products.
I have pasta , bread, cookies, do it yourself bread mix and pancake mix.
I am open every day except Sunday until 2 in the afternoon. I normally open at 8 am but if you are in La Paz before 8 am I will be there baking and you can tap on the door and I will let you in.
The bakery is two blocks away from the malecon on Madero street between Degollado and Ocampo.
It is easiest, in my opinion, to take the SanAntonio turnoff towards Los Planes, and you will come in to town near Soriana Plaza. Take Forjadores right, to Nicholas Bravo, turn left. Go on Bravo all the way to the malecon and turn right. Go to the next street, the National car rental is on the corner and turn right. Go up to the top of the hill and you are at Madero and Ocampo. Park somewhere and I am next to the pink chinese restaurant FFYY Choy. I have a yellow and white striped awning.

b. BANKING IN MEXICO
 I had a talk with Bancomer a couple of days ago. They say you can deposit dollars cash in to your account, but you will be taxed for it by the Gov.--to the tune of about 3 or 4%. If you deposit dollars by check, there is no tax. Banamex will only accept for deposit one check per month, if you have an account with them, and for a maximum amount of only $1k usd (the reason I switched banks a year ago). It appears that the Gov. is going after the street vendors who deal only in cash, and as such, pay no income tax or collect the IVA sales tax. So the Gov. gets their share when these guys deposit their receipts. Looks like another nail in the coffin for tourism; and the street vendors will go back to the coffee can banking system.
