Many thanks to the Rotarians who got up early on Sunday for the annual "Rotarians at Work Day." All over the world on April 25th, Rotarians take part on this day by doing community projects. Our Rotary Club painted the 3 topes North of town and had a work day cleaning up our fountain. Thanks to Jim, Eldon, Ivan, Doug, Steve, Louie and to our four "extra" people: Russ, Bill, Vinny and Joanna. HUMMING BIRDS

To add some information to the person that asked about the hummingbirds disappearing. I've done some research using Cornell University website www.ebird.com  for some specific area data, and I also checked my daily bird logs. I checked sighting reports for 3 years, 2007 thru 2010. In essence we have only two species of hummingbirds in our area (excluding rare sightings of Anna's and Black-chin in 2007). The Xantus is an edemic (only found in the cape area) and during the summer months they migrate to higher elevations in the Sierra Luganas'. The Costa's Hummingbird (smaller, blue/purple chin and head) definitely migrates north in March and April. His summer 'home' is northern Baja, southern California and Arizona. He returns in Sept/Oct and by Nov and December is our most common hummer, out-numbering the Xantus almost 8 to 1. The Xantus returns to the area about the same time. A very few birds, of both species, will remain in the area all year, but are very rare during May thru Sept with only two recorded sightings during those months.
