Cathie Ward, the heart and soul of Punta Pescadero left on her final
journey yesterday morning. She left from the home she loved in
Punta. We all greatly miss her but with such fond memories.
As a side note the authorities were incredible kind and helpful.
Many thanks to them for easing a difficult situation.
It is so hard to write this.

FIDO ALERT!
There have been two dogs without collars running around the Spa. One
is a big long-haired Sheppard, the other a young skinny short-haired
male which is brown with white paws and a white chest. The small one
has worked his way into my yard and is not eager to leave. If he is
yours please come get him. If not, I need a contact with ALMA.

July 29 - Warden Message - Consulate Closed
The U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez is closed on July 30,
2010 to review its security posture. American citizens are advised
avoid the area around the Consulate General until it reopens.
Authorities are investigating the situation.

GAS STATION
a. THE NEW GAS STATION
Operating 2 fishing cruisers and 3 pangas we buy a lot of fuel.
Recently there has been 2 occasions I was distracted and
accidentally gave the attendant to much cash (one time a 1,000
pesos). Both times the attendant returned the money and explained
that I had over paid. I can't say someone else didn't get ripped off
but I do lots of transactions and have never had a bad experience.
The attendants (bomberos) work very hard in the hot weather all day
for a very low wage. I always give them a gratuity for the good
service.

b. In response to recent posts about attempts to pull the 500/50
peso scam by pump operators at the newer LB Pemex, I'd like to
report a recent experience of the exact opposite. At the same Pemex,
on the north side of Los Barriles, an attendant filled my tank for
just under 150 pesos. In a state of heat-dazed exhaustion, having
just driven from the airport, I proffered three 500 peso notes.
(Duh!) The attendant very politely declined to accept them and
pointed out that I was giving him 10 times too much. Needless to
say, I was (and am) extremely grateful. Of course, you can meet a
bad actor anywhere and should always check your change. But based on
the above experience, I will definitely continue to buy gas at that
Pemex.

PROTECTION
a. I recently read an article about using wasp spray for home and
self protection. It shoots up to 20-30 feet. It temporarily blinds
the person until they can get medical help for an antidote.

b. I was just reading Donna and Woody's incident, it is horrible! I
don't have an alarm system but thought we could also use the panic
button on the car remote. We always keep ours in the house, it would
be available and it makes a lot of noise. Just a thought.

NEWS FROM LA PAZ
a. BAJA DOGS REFUGE
Baja Dogs is a registered Mexican non-profit organization, that
relies completely on Private donations as we receive no government
funding. ALL dogs have their vaccines and health certificates and
are ready to travel to the US or Canada.
To date, we have accepted more than 500 dogs and pups into the
refuge. We have found homes outside of Mexico for 171 of them!

We are trying to get as many pups as possible up to Calgary or

via Alaska Air and can escort a dog/s as carry on or in cargo we
will make it real easy for you. ALL dogs have their vaccines and
health certificates and are ready to travel.
