Dance music starts at 7:30. As

I just visited the art festival
at Colina del Sol. The fellow
who was advertising Italian
sausage was there but he had no
sausage to sell other than that
which had been pre-ordered. He
lives in La Paz but said that if
we got enough orders together
here in the L.B. area, he had no
problem coming back to deliver.
He has both link (nice a large)
as well as bulk. I asked to see
what he had even though it was
already spoken for. It looked
pretty darned good. I asked if
it was sweet or hot. He
described it as spicy. He will
sell as little as 1/2 kilo
amounts. So how about it folks;
can we get enough people
interested in placing an order
to get this guy to come back?

Each week some of us in the
sporfishing business submit a
report to Robin Wade, the
Southern Baja Editor for the
Western Outdoor News. With the
kites aloft this week and the
boats on their hooks inshore,
Robin asked for something,
anything, to help her space.
Here's my non-fish report that:
Yesterday morning the Sea of
Cortez took my breath away. It
was gorgeous flat calm, full of
colored rivers and anchored
boats sitting gently, some
pointing north, others south,
maybe east, with no wind and
little current, their direction
confused. It looked the perfect
day for fishing. Instead, I went
on a 20-mile 'Cabalgata' horse
ride with four of my
girlfriends, Kym, Charlie, Sandy
and Shelly, and a posse of
Caballero Cowboys - more than 40
of them, riding traditional
Mexican saddles with saucer
sized saddle horns, many
bedecked with tooled leather
garb, all wearing their
requisite straw cowboy hats and
big shanked spurs with little
tin bells creating a symphony as
they walked. The word 'Cabalgata'
means 'community horse ride',
and that's what it is, sometimes
100 riders strong. To honor the
Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe
on December 12 of each year (The
Virgin is actually Mary, who
appeared as an apparition on the
cloak of a man in Mexico's city
of Guadalupe in the mid 1500's),
there is a pilgrimage to the
Southern Baja town of
Miraflores, a religious mecca
for Catholic believers - people
walk from as far away as 25
miles on this day. For us, our
Cabalgata starts early in
Campamento and ends late; it
travels some of the most
beautiful and remote southern
Baja country, through dry arroyo
river beds, shady dirt roads,
and we gallop alongside the
Sierra de La Laguna mountains
that spine the center of Baja.
We pass little back country
pueblos that lull through the
years and little kids who seldom
if ever see a woman on
horseback. Wearing our matching
green girls riding shirts, our
Mexican cowboys call us
'Pistachios'; that must be the
reason they like us so much.
Every mile or so we're offered
the coldest beer on earth from a
truck with the loudest speakers
on earth blaring baboomba
baboomba ranchero music. By the
time the sun is high, the
cowboys get looser and the
singing gets louder and every
now and then someone falls off.
For a bunch of Pistachio girls
who love nothing more than to
lope along, five astride feeling
like we're the Bonzana
Cartwright sisters, I ask myself
"What could be better?" then I
remember, the Sea of Cortez.
Beginning Tuesday this week, the
seas are calm and the winds
light and variable. If you want
to fish, or coast cruise and
watch whales, our motto is 'The
Sea of Cortez - Get on it'.
