PET DISCUSSION
a. The recent posting concerning bringing pets into Mexico raises as
many questions
as it answers. That posting quotes the official response from the
Mexican
Consulate in Portland OR. I have brought our Dog into Mexico 9 times
in the last
9 years and have never been asked for the documentation which the
Consulate
states is required though I have been aware of the requirement, but
not that the
rabies certificate must be within one year of inoculation at the
time of
crossing the border. The requirement that a health certificate needs
also to be
presented and be must be signed by a Vet within 4 days of crossing
is very
difficult to comply with for a Canadian travelling to Mexico by road
and so we
have never had that. Every one of the many friends we have who bring
dogs into
Mexico by road have had the same experience as us at the border.
Travelling by
air we know to be different, and all pets documentation is examined
in that
case. The posting referred to does not put in context the
circumstances which
brought it about. Was the poster travelling by road or by air? Where
were they
stopped by Authorities and asked for a bribe. The other question
raised by the
posting is " has there been a change in practice concerning pets at
the border
or is this just a restatement of the official government policy?"
Some context
to make sense of the original posting would assist those of us who
have concerns

a. MEDIVAC QUESTION
I keep getting solicitations for a medivac flight service out of
Mexico. Each time I reply with these questions but, I am never
answered. If anyone can help please post to the BPE.
1) Who decides if I can (should) fly home? What are the criteria?
2) Am I guaranteed to get to Canada where I am totally covered in
the hospital or transported to the US, where they put one hose in my
arm and the other in my bank account?
3) Who decides if my spouse can accompany me on the flight?
4) Can I get a private second opinion at my own cost and qualify?
