The Nest Company has just
re-released their “Smoke Detector”. The Nest Protect has both Smoke
and CO2 warnings. In addition to the really loud tones, it also
gives a variety of verbal cautions and illuminates a pathway light.
It will connect to your home WiFi and provide you with warnings to
your smart phone or tablet no matter where you are. The Nest Protect
will eventually connect to your Nest Thermostat to turn off the
heater incase of fire. Yes, I have the Nest Thermostat as well. I
can control the temperature of the house in the states from anywhere
in the world.
Warning: CO2 detectors have a lifespan of 10 years MAX!!!
Are you on Drugs? My wife frequently asks when she sees the
Technology Bills. But, at some point we all shop for prescription
drugs. There are some ways to cut cost that are not intuitively
obvious to even the most casual observer. If you purchase Generis
Drugs from a named brand drug store, they discount the Generics
based on a percentage of the name brand drug. For instance, the
named brand may cost $100 and the CVS Drug Store may discount that
by 65%. If that some drug is available at Costco, Costco uses a
different pricing model. Their highest markup is 17% above cost.
That can mean significant savings. You do NOT have to be a member of
Costco in the US to visit the pharmacy in Costco USA. Wal-Mart on
the other hand charges $4 for a huge number of Generics. Pays to
shop around. Don’t for get to ask your Doc if there are Generic
options and how many options.
ACR makes a Personal Locating Beacon (PLB) that can communicates
with orbiting satellites in case of an emergency. When you activate
the ACR PLB-375, it will transmit your exact GPS position and your
discrete identifier to the rescue folks. You need to register the
unit with the US so that they can identify you. That form also has
emergency telephone contact information. The unit is as small as a
handheld GPS. $270 at Amazon.
