A final word on "Norma the
neighborhood Cow" According to Norma's original owner, Norma was at
least 20 years old. Her last calf was born spring of 2013. What a
gal.!!!
Norma did not die of "old age". She stumbled over a rock and as she
fell she impaled her horn into the ground and broke her neck. It was
a quick death.

Road
Report for Mexico 15 to Nogales via the Baja Ferry, and points
north, not so smooth sailing this time as road detours and they are
fixing the roads. There were a few detours and more stops than
usual. It seemed that you would get rolling at a good speed, use
cruise control, then, you would be stopped for: a toll booth, which
from Toplobampo to Nogales is about $60, but they will only accept
Mexican Pesos. Or you would get stopped for a military check,
usually just let you go, but slow you down. Or you would come to a
detour, and that would certainly slow you down. Then it would be
back to 60-70 miles an hour and then another stop to spray your
vehicle. So, instead of the 6-8 hours to the border it was more like
10-12 hours. They are improving the roads and quite a bit of
construction and no driving on any kind of dirt road or huge pot
holes. Although, the toll road is being improved and there are rough
road areas. By the time I drive back in December, these improvements
should be done, and nice two lanes going south and nice two lanes
going north with ‘shoulders’! There are more Pemex Stations right on
Mexico 15 than are probably needed and many OXXOs to get coffee,
snacks, free ice, and they are usually attached or in the same plaza
as the Pemex Stations. Some Pemex Stations near big cities, like Los
Mochis, CD Obregon, and Hermesillo and of course Nogales take US
Credit Cards for gas. You should make sure they put the pump back to
“0” and stay alert with the attendant while he is pumping the gas.
If you are wanting to go through Tecate, Mexicali,
Algodones, and points west then in Santa Ana is the intersection
where you make the left turn to points west on Mexico 2 or 3.
There were enough delays with all the stops, that we
ended up at Santa Ana about 90 miles south of the Nogales border.
So, spent the night in Santa Ana, Hotel Mision, on left as you enter
Santa Ana, Pet Friendly, with nice grassy area for dogs to poop/pee,
bar-b-que and tables and chairs, park in front of your room, clean
rooms with television, and about $55 USD. OXXO, and places to eat
breakfast, lunch and dinner within a mile. Happy Trails.

Repair: Minisplit air conditioner down at the shop so we
called Gonzalo Trejo who is new in town. He showed up promptly with
all of his equipment and had the problems figured out in a short
time. He followed up a couple days later with the new parts and had
them installed quickly. We were very happy with his knowledge, his
service, and a very reasonable price. He doesn’t speak English, but
is an honest guy. His number is 624-110-7228 -Cody, East Cape
