SUNDAY, MARCH 30, 2014  -  #1930

Note:  I apologize about sending out the "thief" notice yesterday with very little info.  I felt a little knowledge was valuable at the moment.  The incident took place up behind El Barralito's Friday noon.  The house was empty for about 10 min.  A blond woman and a Mexican man, were seen by a neighbor walking straight into the house and exiting in approx. 5 min drinking beers, leaving on foot.  When the owner came home, the cell phone and a bag of loose coins missing and drawers had been opened.  The owner has no knowledge of knowing these people.  Guess the moral is not to make it so easy for the bad guys.
And since I am in writing mode....I keep getting emails about dogs in restaurants, smoking in enclosed and open air restaurants/bars & dog poop.  Do I need to say more?    Cheryl

Thank You to the more than 600 BPE readers who came to watch “The Puppets’ Ire Or How I Learned To Love Barbed Wire!” The show was a great success for our acting troupe and for the charities who benefitted from the raffle each night. We heard so many good things — about dinner and our new venue at Hotel Buenavista Beach Resort and, of course, about the show itself. We are so grateful that you enjoyed it all. The Buddha is very happy! Hopefully we’ll be back next year with something just as fun. For those of you who can’t wait. “The Puppets’ Ire Or How I Learned to Love Barbed Wire” is available at Amazon. For the Kindle version (and for Apple devices with free Kindle For Mac software), go to http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J9V20EU  For the hard copy book, go to http://www.createspace.com/4734741 . Road Report #1:   We just arrived back from the border area on Thursday evening, and wanted to alert those who are looking to drive back north of all the road construction south of Loreto (still) and also south of Constitution, which is a couple major detours on soft dirt, one of which was 6+ miles long; the other was about 3 miles, making it very slow and of course dusty.
Additionally, there is an area of work being done about 10 miles south of Loreto where the traffic is stopped in both directions for about half an hour to enable the machines to get some dumping of rock from the hill which is being torn back; then each direction goes one at a time, so if you arrive just as they have stopped the traffic, it could be close to an hour. We only had about 30-40 mins wait going up in late Feb and return last week

Road Report #2:  Hi, We live in LaBufadora, just south of Ensenada. For general information about traveling from Ensenada to San Diego. Going north from Ensenada only the free road is open because of the closure along the toll road where the pavement slid to the ocean. The free road comes out at La Mision and dumps right onto the toll road and off you go. No problems. The free road has been repaved and is quite nice. However, it is still a loopy, two way road and everyone needs to travel with caution. Beware of the locals passing on curves. Keep space between your car and the one in front. Check out our local email newsletter at Yahoo Groups. It's called the Punta Banda Newsletter. You are welcome to ask any questions. We are headed your way...are the roads going south from Ensenada okay???? Thanks, Patti and Steve.

RECYCLE NEWS!  Our next recycling day is right around the corner, Thursday, April 3, 2014.  Many of our wonderful volunteers have already headed north, so if you have a hankering to do something good for your community, we could use your (gloved) hands to help us receive, sort, stomp and load our recycles this month!  All we ask is one hour between 9am-11am at our Recycle Center located within East Cape Casas & RV Resort (across from the Modelorama).  Enter and look to the left for our "Imagine A Green Earth*Emagen a Mundo Verde" logo.  We are an energetic and committed group of volunteers who work so that 100% of your donations go toward the transport of our community's recycling  environmental awareness and education of local adults and children. If you need a list of what we take, please visit our website: www.eastcaperecyclingbaja.com .   If you can help us, please email:  lynnmirassou@gmail.com.   For all you FaceBook users, we would love it if you would "LIKE" us (East Cape Recycling Baja). Thanks for your support!

Warning: XP will no longer be supported after April 8th. No more security updates. So here’s what can happen. Second Tuesday in May, Microsoft releases their monthly security patches for Vista, 7 and 8. The bad guys will reverse engineer that patch to see if it applies to XP. Bang, with XP you’re unpatched and vulnerable. Even with a good anti-virus, you’re only as good as their last update. The Antivirus will not patch a security hole!!! Most important: If you have Windows XP, DO NOT use Internet Explorer ever again after 8 April. Firefox and Chrome will continue to receive periodic update but IE will not!

Let’s talk more about browsers (not the Mallalogolists - study of Shopping Malls); I mean the ones you use to explore the internet in search of just about anything. There are three major Internet Browsers from Microsoft (Internet Explorer), Mozilla (Firefox) and Google (Chrome). Internet Explorer is very fast but, it’s harder to customize unless some spyware or adware company has already done that for you. I really like Chrome. I can customize it with Add-on features and more importantly it has a version of “Flash Player” built into that browser making it far more secure. Firefox is slower to load but I have a huge number of Add On extras. If you have more that one computer, then both Chrome and Firefox will allow you to sync your “bookmarks or favorites” between computers. With Chrome I can set it to automatically open certain web pages on start-up. For me it opens 15 pages of “Geek Stuff’ on all my computers. I have Firefox set to open to the last set of open pages when I closed it. I can tell your getting drowsy. Next time you have some spare time, look into settings and preferences of your favorite browser to see how you can truly make it yours. Remember you can use Hola.org in either Chrome or Firefox to watch the Neflix from the USA server. You don’t need to pay for that service!

BAJA NIGHT SKY #57: 1) Monday evening provides the last chance to count the stars you see in Orion and send in a report at http://www.globeatnight.org/5-steps.php  We got a report from a reader near Cabo Pulmo. His sky matched map 7, the best possible. Come on Billy, Dave, Dennis, Gary, Ken, Mike, and Steve. And girls too. You have better eyes. Let me know which star map matched your sky. 2) This is the last regular Night Sky report of the season unless something special comes along. One such event will be during the early morning hours of April 15. From about 1:30am to 2:30am, the full Moon will be totally eclipsed by Earth's shadow. If you are awake, take a look overhead. You will probably see a faint reddish- to rust-colored orb, illuminated by light bent by Earth's atmosphere onto the eclipsed Moon. 3) On April 1, same as last year, I leave for NASA to work on its MBSC project. The Moon Beam Sky Cycle was born when I noticed five-meter wide moonbeams came right down to the shore during a full Moon. By using special photon emitting ionized hydrogen gas to inflate anti-matter bicycle tires, it will be possible to ride up those moonbeams and coast back down before the moon rises higher than 30 degrees. That's out to Cerralvo and back. Only readers making a Globe at Night report will be offered shares in the company. Riding on Moonbeams, TS at BajaNightSky@gmail.com.

ANSWERS - DISCUSSIONS- This category must have name and/or email address.

a. Re: sewer gasses. Some people suggest using a thin layer of cooking oil floated into the drain. BAD IDEA. This is like pouring grease down your sink and will clog your pipes. Better idea is to have someone check your house during times you are gone and add water to sink and floor drains. Once a month should be enough, even during the hot season. Bill Barb

CRITTER CORNER

a.  My name is Alison, and yesterday I was followed home from North Beach through the second arroyo to my house by a young puppy. I am attaching a picture of him here. I went back to the beach and tried to ask around to see if anyone could claim him, but no one recognized him. I am going again today to see if anyone recognizes him. I am leaving town and really need someone to take him as soon as possible. He seems like he is in pretty good health and good shape, so I wonder if he just got lost.
