Security – If you are concerned
about the security of your property, there are a couple of easy
solutions. I have a couple of DropCams from dropcam.com. They take
very high quality videos. If you subscribe to their recording
service for a fee, you get a video record of your property for one
week stored on their server. For free you can see live video of your
property from anywhere using a computer or smart phone. Installs in
less than two minutes! Downsides: Fixed position and it uses about
25% of your upstream bandwidth. There is a built in scheduler and
remote on/off. My next is the Moultrie A5 Low Glow Game Camera. It’s
a fixed base all weather still camera that takes over 10,000 photos
during day or night when the motion sensor is tripped. No remote
access on that Game Camera. The street price of the Drop Cam is $150
and $56 for the Game Camera.
Scams - You get an email from your Bank, Paypal, Twitter or Facebook.
The email tells you that they have noticed unusual activity on your
account. Click on the link to confirm your account information. For
some bizarre reason, you clicked on that link (please, never tell
your mother that you did that) and you are about to be hacked. For
example: If you look close enough at this Twitter example you will
see Tvvitter instead of Twitter. The two “v’s” look like a “w” at
quick glance especially if I manipulate the fonts. You are about to
be scammed! Never click on a link in an email! Go directly to the
site.
Backups: You should have a monthly routine to backup your computers!
If you have a Ipad or Iphone, it may just be a great idea to signup
for ICloud backups. People are taking and storing huge numbers of
photos on their mobile devices. Don’t get caught without a backup if
your phone is stolen. Android has a similar backup system though
their initial signup. I use Helium on my androids for backups. More
on backup solutions later, I have to get started on mine and my
proof reader just dozed off.

a. Thanks for all your responses! From what
I can gather, we have two separate issues: 1. Lack of traps and lack
of adequate ventilation (particularly offensive where a/c drain was
connected to plumbing vent, thank you C&G Builders!). 2. Where there
are traps below plumbing, they dry out easily esp when ventilation
is not adequate. We cover our drains for both smells and mosquitos,
which helps. So, we are installing Mexican drains which have water
around them to prevent odors from escaping and we are adding vents
