a. Mosquito Discussion
1) Mosquitoes usually found near
where their eggs were laid. In La Ventana, it has been documented
that they breed in septic tanks. If you have mosquitoes, walk your
neighborhood looking for any container that might have water and
empty it. Screen all septic tank vents with window screen. We had
mosquitoes when we arrived in January. They were breeding in 1/4
inch of water in a neighbor's roof water drain pipe. Leaves had
collected in the almost-horizontal pipe and dammed up the water.
Shade prevented evaporation. A shot of Raid and a small square tile
over the entrance to the pipe eliminated those in the pipe. Here is
how to make a simple trap that works inside or out. It trapped two
mosquitoes in our house in 5 minutes, half a dozen overnight outside
our home. Stretch a hat mosquito netting over the downwind side of a
small 8 to 16 inch round fan.Set the fan near your feet where you
tend to sit indoors and turn it on. Your feet make great bait. The
mosquitoes will fly near them and get sucked into the net. I bought
and brought down a Skeeter Bag from
www.skeeterbag.com , and
attached it to a 20 inch box fan purchased at Aramburos in La Paz. I
place this one outside about 18 inches from a window and blowing
away from the window. Open the window and turn on a light at dawn
and dusk. If you have mosquitoes outside it will catch them. Put one
