VERISON: 1) If you call Verizon before
leaving the states and add the Canada/Mexico plan--it's easy to do.
Last year they had a great plan for 1000 minutes for $20 month. All
numbers on the account could use the same minutes. No texts
included. From a quick look on My Verizon recently--it looks like
the plans are different this year (more expensive, less minutes,
texts included, each line pays a fee)-----that is on my list this
week to take care of so we will see... In the top bar of your phone
is reads that the call is going through Telcel or their
partner--instead of how it normally says Verizon--at least on an
iPhone....If you add the plan from Mexico here are the numbers that
worked last year:

My two cents worth on Verizon in LB: Some Verizon Phones will work
in Los Barriles. The newest Verizon phones have switched to a SIM
chip using voice over data technology (Voice over LTE). The older
Verizon phones that use only CDMA technology will not work in LB.
There are a few CDMA towers limited to La Paz and Cabo. In order for
your Verizon phone to work in our area it must be a "world phone"
that has a SIM chip. Here is a list of Verizon:

There are some older world phones that have the SIM slot but will
work only with a TelCel chip that gives you a Mexican phone number.
The newest Verizon phones use that SIM chip exclusively instead of
CDMA should work. Verizon calls that "Voice over LTE". Check with a
knowledgeable Verizon person in the US before you arrive hoping for
service. The key question to ask the customer service rep is: Does
my phone support Voice over LTE?
Sprint is slowly working its way toward GSM (Sim chip) phones as
well. For qualifying phones, they do offer service options in
Mexico.
Verizon and AT&T are working together toward switching their
services over to Voice over LTE giving us HD quality video and audio
service.

b. A friend and I are driving down to Los Barriles, she is
flying she is flying back to states in about two weeks after
arriving to LB, where do we get a Tourist Visa for her. When I drive
through Nogales there is really nowhere to stop. Even where I
purchase my auto permit there is no where there to pick one up. She
needs it to fly out? Do they have them at the airport when shes due
to leave? Anyone know about Tourist Visas? Thanks, Sylvia
