As you know Citi Bank is going to become the credit card issuer for Costco USA which is currently under the American Express umbrella until sometime in March. As it stands right now, American Express will cancel your card and Citi will require a new credit check. That puts a double hit on your credit rating/score which could temporarily reduce that score by 30 points plus. The good news is that Citi and Amex are in negotations for Citi to buy the Amex portfolio of card holders which would allow Citi to re-issue those Costco cards without a credit check. You would get a small ding because of the possible reduction in available credit by the loss of Amex which would be offset by the increase in Citi.
