HURRICANE JIMENA

         (a)  FIRST ROAD REPORT FOR THE BPE  (I'm sure the photos are Santa Rosalia, Cheryl)

Hola todos,
We made it across the border on Sun. about noon. From San Ignacio north, the road is passable by all vehicles. The 1 day drive to Santa Rosalia, from La Ribera, took 5 days, so count on delays and some very rough road conditions.

From Loreto north to just south of San Ignacio, the road is passable, even with a low clearance vehicle, as the highway is being cleared by crews and equipment at almost every diffficult spot. Not like when we came through.

Saturday noon, the water was still thigh deep, (see photo), at the northern most wash out, about 15km south of San Ignacio. Trucks were not getting through northbound, as a truck was stuck in the road, and partially under water, blocking all vehicles 8ft wide. It has probably been removed by now, but we had to fold in our mirror to scrape by.

Loreto, no power or water, and few services... no fuel yet

Mulege, no power water, few services, fuel south of town.

Santa Rosalia, no water, but fuel, and clever pump rip-off attendents.

Bring your own extra supplies, and count on extra travel time, as traffic is backed up often at the many washouts.

        (b)  I have just gotten off the phone with the President of the Rotary Club in Mulege. Our Rotary Club has sent in a donation to their club to spend on anything that they feel is critical. I also want to ask each and everyone of you as you are are traveling back to the East Cape to drop off food and clothing at the fire station in Mulege who is handling all of the distribution in their town. I have been in contact with our District Governor of Rotary and he is in contact with Rotary International to see what help they can give to our neighbors to the North of us. He is going to get back to me when he find out where the drop off locations are in Loreto and Cuidad Constitucion. I will post those location when I get them. If you have any questions, please email me at   bajarhino@yahoo.com   Marilyn Cunningham

I received this photo a couple of times.  Does anyone know the source?  Quite amazing.  Cheryl
