Jim and I thought we’d share our medical adventure to reaffirm the excellent care and quality medical professionals we are privileged to have here in Mexico.
In Colorado, Friday, November 27th, I had a cardiac cauterization involving the femoral artery. With the doctor’s release, we flew to San Antonio Saturday, then San Jose del Cabo on Tuesday. The doctor had been aware that we were flying after the procedure.
To make a long story short, my leg was swollen and bruised, and after an ultrasound at the Amerimed hospital in Cabo, they discovered I had a hematoma blocking the blood flow to my femoral vein, thus causing a deep vein thrombosis. Dr. Moguel, the cardiologist, commented that my procedure done in the States was not done the same way in Mexico because of the complications I was having.
I was admitted to the hospital, and the procedure to help alleviate the problem was performed at 11pm, Thursday, after Dr. Moguel had successfully repaired the heart of a five day old infant.
Char Wenger and Dr. Cevallos were critical with their knowledge and in urging us to get treatment. Dr. Moguel was amazing with his dedication, experience and expertise in advanced procedures and technology.
Along with Char, Dr. Cevallos, Dr. Moguel and the Amerimed staff, we thank our friends who came to the rescue, as well.
You never think it’s going to happen to you—well, it did, and Mexico supplemental insurance now makes all the sense in the world.

Vehicle insurance:
I have questions regarding insurance for our vehicles in Baja. I have a motor home and small pickup in Baja and they are not coming home any time soon and have Calif plates. I have Mexican insurance on them. Calif DMV says they need US insurance in order to issue yearly tags. This means that even though they never see US soil, thy still have to be insured in Calif for US. I understand that importing them to Baja is a difficult undertaking. Can anyone tell me if there is any alternative to double insuring my vehicles? Sincerely, Dexter Keehn valeriedexter@sbcglobal.net

        a. When our car is in Mexico I call 21st Century Ins. and place the car on "suspension" or "parked" and only carry minimum fire/theft to keep the policy active. The cost is minimal and if we take the car back to the US it's just a simple phone call to activate our policy. Cheryl
