==========================

Greetings dear friends,

Many of you are receiving the updates on Gabriel Howearth and are painfully aware that he was literally at death’s door just months ago. The good news is that he has overcome the life threatening aspect of his health crisis recovering from meningitis and pneumonia. For those of you who have made contributions, financial or otherwise, please know that you have helped save his life.

Gabriel has traveled from California, Oregon, New Mexico and Texas receiving numerous treatments so we would like to thank the hosts and the therapists that has been a great support in his recovery, especially his mother Maria Oehler who has been invaluable support in many ways and Gabriel’s two main doctors: Ingrid Naiman and Karen Ferreira who not only have provided good care and alternative treatments but also has raised funds to be able to support Gabriel. And kind and supportive friends who had hosted him in the US and supported him on his healing quest including Karen and Antonio Ferreira, Kumbaa Piazza , Moria and Steve Peters and Christopher Daugthery.

The challenges both in terms of healing and finances are still considerable. Even so,
Gabriel has initiated a process of visioning the next phase of his life and how he can continue to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and share, in a more formal way, the abundant knowledge of his life’s work.

He had just spent two weeks at the Buena Fortuna Gardens overseeing the garden work as a founder and co-director his presence in the garden is invaluable because of his knowledge is so needed there and with his wonderful memory and botanical knowledge he has helped labeling, plan on nursery propagation, advice on garden care and much more, unfortunately the extreme heat and insects of the summer in Baja plus the rustic set up of the garden were not the best situation for Gabriel’s health; however both garden and his kids were so happy to have him around and we all pray he will be able to come back again in the fall to stay.

He is in a transition between the life threatening circumstance and reaching his full healing potential to be able to reengage in his life’s mission of spreading biodiversity.

Yes, Gabriel’s health continues to improve, however he is still in need of care. The right side of his body still has some sort of mild paralysis nervous system- candida related which doesn’t allow him to move his right hand and barely move his right leg and the right side of his face, giving him problems for chewing and affecting his speech and his walking. Luckily his mental processes and wonderful botanical memory seem intact and he is been able and willing to offer botanical advice.

Because Gabriel has worked and lived internationally and often has donated his time, he does not have the safety net – social security, disability, health insurance – that many of us could fall back on in times of crisis.

In place of that we are building a social network to invest in Gabriel’s transition.
The goal is to build a grassroots network of at least 200 people committed to contributing $200 or more a year for two years.

Please invest in Gabriel’s transition so that he can continue the vitally important work of saving heirloom seeds, preserving biodiversity and expanding ecological agriculture. For those of you who $200 is not possible, we ask you to expand the network by engaging three other people to commit to $50 each to complete a two hundred dollar share.

Many drops of water fill the bucket. The power of the ecological restoration movement is in its grass roots network. Your investment in Gabriel’s transition will collectively continue the dream and actualization of Gabriel’s beautiful and essential work. Help Gabriel help the planet.

As we speak the Botanical Garden Buena Fortuna, in Baja is bright green again and many fruit trees are in flower. The main pump is now working and the water is been back consistently and we been planting cover crops, cleaning up the place and working on the nursery. We been working a lot on the maintenance of the irrigation systems and all seems to be working very well and consistently now. Currently we have two workers –and no volunteers because is really hot now- but we are praying to be able to raise enough founds to keep them.

We trust together we can continue the preservation work.Please spread the word.
