Just a word of caution, we made a pickup at the Old Terminal, there were
6 Federal Police in front and they were checking the dates on US car for
registration violations. The officer saw me drive through with Oregon
Plates and looked very close and on my next go-around pulled me to the
curb. He asked for drivers license and wanted to see the registration. I
had left the new stickers on my desk in Los Barriles. He had a recorded
message on his cell phone in English, not real good English, telling me
that I could not drive a vehicle in Mexico with out current registration.
I called my wife on my cell phone as he stood there and asked her to
bring the stickers to the Airport! I told him she was coming from Los
Barriles, he wanted to know how long she would be, I told him an
hour,.....He said she did not need to come and that I needed to put the
new stickers on the car right away and that I could go.....I saw them
later going through the parking lot looking for more violations....I
called wife and she had not left the house so I saved her the trip.;;;
Check your vehicle papers and make sure they are up to date! The

Most dishwashers now have electronic timers that use computer chips.
Electronics are vulnerable to power surges, such as often happen during Baja storms.
Our less than 2 year old Whirlpool Model DU850 SWPQ, bought from Itsca in La Paz,
did not survive last summer storms since it was plugged straight into the house circuit. Add a power surge protector
to your washer's power cord. These are available for a few $$ in most hardware stores.

Be careful out there!! On the way back to LB from the airport today, 3 cars were being ticketed by the Federal Policia going south, and 2 others going north. The one going north passed me twice to catch someone else. 3 had Mexican plates, 1 had California plates, and one had no plates at all. The Federal Policia were four different cars. Looks like they may be cracking down on "over the speed limit", and are not just picking out Gringos. I put it on cruise control, and it took me 1 hour instead of 45 minutes, but I also didn't get stopped.

PETS

a. For current regulations for bringing pets into Mexico, scroll down about 2/3 of the page at:
http://www.iatatravelcentre.com/MX-Mexico-customs-currency-airport-tax-regulations-details.htm
or you can go directly to the government website for info at http://www.senasica.gob.mx/?id=623&idioma=2
Also, the officials at the La Paz airport are very fussy so be sure to bring original documents, signed in BLUE ink by the vet.
Sheryl Hamilton

b.    1. travel with current vaccination papers and all other pertinent information on your pet.
Keep water and food with you for your pet until time to kennel your pet for airport departure which was 45 minutes @ LAX.
We were also advised "Pet on Board" before take-off.
$200 round trip ticket for pet

         2. Departure from Los Cabos. We departed July 31st. Not a problem. Followed same procedure as above.
Mexican law, you need to have current vaccine, check with local vets. Even if you have a 3 year vaccine which covers your stay, it is mandatory you vaccinate your pet for current year.
You will need to make sure your "pet is on Board" they will not tell you on departure.

I would like to second the endorsement and recommendation of the Animal Health Veternarios,
M.V.Z. Gretel E. de la Torre Magdaleno and M.V.Z. Emanuel Sosa Correa, from Las Cuevas. (See BPE# 671 dated 04November)

When my cat stopped eating, drinking and cleaning herself, I took her to the local vet who diagnosed her as being "stressed". I took her home and two days later she was worse. A friend recommended Gretel and Emanel who immediately recognized that my cat was having liver failure and immediately put her on an IV with electrolites and antibiotics. After three days in the hospital, she was fine. This husband and wife team of vets, saved my cat's life and I will forever be eternally grateful. If you need veternarian services, call them at 044 624 129 56 40.

b. Dogs Entering La Paz By Air - I was told approx 2 months ago by an official at the airport that requirements had changed when bringing in a dog by air. You need an updated current official letter stating the health of the dog, date and type of vaccines, a separate rabies certificate and you need a declaration by the vet stating your dog is parasite free. Yesterday in the LP airport two people arrived from LAX with dogs. These dogs were held until we found a vet that could come to the airport and do a parasite test, give the dog another rabies vaccine and issue a certificate of health. One of the individuals had a certificate issued in the US or Ca but the letter was signed in black ink and the official at the airport insisted it was a copy and would not accept it. I left before the vet arrived so do not know the outcome or what would have happened if parasites were found. Make sure your docs are up to date! - Dhorea Ryon, dhorearyon@hotmail.com , www.bajadogslapaz.org,  Baja California Sur
