FYI: Sears has bought the Dorian's in La Paz and now both Dorians, the one on Forjadores and the one in Centro are Sears. The one on Forjadores looks like a Sears and carries great merchandise; Most of the road work on Cabo San Lucas is finished and you can now drive from one end of the town to the other without pulling out your hair; A friend of ours just finished a week at the Spanish school, Se Habla...La Paz. The school is owned by Julie Goff and teaching is almost one on one. Our friend stayed with a delightful Mexican family and was elated with the time he spent. Something to consider if you want to learn Spanish thru immersion. Chris and Jim White

I am driving into Mexico, and the Baja, through Nogales, and have been reading all the hoopla about folks flying in with their dogs/cats, and all the paper work regarding fleas, ticks, and worms. I usually get a health certificate for my dogs just before I leave home and cross the border into mainland Mexico. So far, the last ten years or so have never been asked to show any proof of health certificates nor documentation about no fleas, ticks and worms. Has anyone been stopped and requested to show any proof of health certificates for their dogs while driving into Mexico/Baja? Please post answer on the Pony, thanks, Sylvia, treaturfeet@yahoo.com

RECYCLING WILL BEGIN TUESDAY NOVEMBER 24! START SAVING THAT TRASH!

The Navarro Recycling truck will be parked on Highway 1 across from the entrance to Los Barriles, next to the pizza parlor, from the hours of 10am to 1pm. Brenda and Moises Navarro will be taking all acceptable recyclables for this 3 hour period. Because they must haul them to different recyclers in San Jose and Cabo San Lucas, this is not a particularly profitable venture for their little company. They are asking for 50 to 75 peso donation per drop-off. Please support their grassroots effort to clean up our environment!
Additional donations to support the start up of this program are welcome. These will be used to encourage the families that cannot afford the fee to join in our recycling efforts.
The Navarros have agreed to make their truck available to our area EVERY OTHER TUESDAY, FROM 10 TO 1PM.
Here is the current list of what is recyclable: (please separate items, and rinse out food)
Plastic:
Soda bottles all colors and sizes
(not tea bottles as NESTE or any other use for tea´s)
Water Bottles (individual) (* I AM CHECKING ON LARGER PLASTIC BOTTLES...WILL POST UPDATE WHEN I RECEIVE IT.)
Not collecting color plastic, neither bags. Looking for a new person.
Paper:
All types for paper
(except napkin and toilet paper)
Glass:
Clear Glass all types. (PLEASE RINSE OUT)
We are not receiving color glass right now.
(no window glass)
Batteries:
Alkaline batteries, Solar batteries and car batteries.
Ink Printer Toners:
HP
Metals:
All kinds of metal and cans
Oil:
Cooking burned oil
Use clothes
Some good ideas that have been suggested: Discuss recycling with your housekeeper/gardener and others in the community that you know. Offer to sponsor their efforts so that they can begin recycling with their families.
Also, we are also looking for 11 special people to act as sponsors so that we can bring this program to the primary school in Los Barriles! There are 11 classes, and sponsorship would allow us to place a collection can(s) in each classroom for recycle items. We envision a contest between the classes to see which class can contribute the most recycle items, with an appropriate prize. The cost of sponsorship is not great; sponsors would be responsible for providing the can(s) for collection, and the drop-off fee every other week for their class' collections. Please email me if you are interested in being a sponsor!

That's it for now; I will post more information as we move forward. Keep saving those recycle materials and keep them out of the landfills!! Let's make Los Barriles an example of what a united community can do....With a little effort, we can make a difference in this beautiful land we love.
