TUXEDO NEEDS A HOME.
He is a very handsome dog, about 8 months old, neutered, primarily black with a white chest and front paws and the most amazing black spots. He is very well mannered and as smart as any dog I've known (it took 3 pieces of bacon to teach him to sit.) He's relaxed in a vehicle and as lovable as a teddy bear. I can't take him with me and I can't bear to think he won't be cared for. Ask and I'll send photos, better yet come meet him. bajaalias@gmail.com

MANGO CHUTNEY and MANGO JAM.
For those of you looking for mango chutney and mango jam for the holiday, I have it now in Los Barriles. I will also have a booth at the Artist Sale at COLINA DE SOL, on the north side of Los Barriles (off the highway to nowhere) on DEC 13th from 10 to 3pm.
Call Annette cell. 624 154 3592 or email iikaiser@frii.com

On Saturday evening, November 21, Luis Camarena will set up his telescope at Playa Norte in Los Barriles and give us a tour of the night sky...view Jupiter and its Galilean Moons, Andromeda, the Milky Way, star clusters, nebulae and more.

Luis was a Grand Canyon river guide for 8 years, speaks excellent English, and he and his daughter Crystal, conduct sky tours at different locations in Southern Baja. We are very lucky to have him here in Los Barriles. Last weekend in Pescadero, Luis had over 40 people star gazing with him, including the staff from the Todos Santos television station.

Luis participates in local school programs and encourages everyone in Los Barriles to participate. Gringos will contribute $100 pesos per person, kids and locals contribute the amount they can afford, to help Luis cover his costs.

If you need directions to Playa Norte (near the Exotikite Kite Boarding school), meet Luis at the old Pemex between Buena Vista and Los Barriles at 5:30 pm, otherwise we will see you on the beach at 6:00pm. Bring food, drinks, chairs or blankets.

As a courtesy to Luis, please email or call him to let him know you will be joining us. 624 172 2235; crystalantares@yahoo.com.mx

The following is from Peggy Dillman, former Canadian Honorary Consul.
Now that I have retired as Canada's Honorary Consul for the State of Baja California Sur as of March 31, I thought that all my good friends in Tomatoes could benefit from some of my experiences. Here's one:

NEVER leave the original registration in your car. Put a copy in your car and carry the original in your wallet or some other safe place so that the original will always be with you when you're driving, but not left in the car.

We had a case where an SUV was stolen. The owners reported the theft to the police, who found the SUV a few days later. The police called the owners, who went to identify the car, and, they thought, to get it back. The police refused to release the car to its rightful owners because they did not have the ORIGINAL registration. It had been in the car when it was stolen.

If you think that these hints are helpful, or would like to hear the end of this story, please email me at PeggyTaschereau@ gmail.com   .

Many of you in LB and BV will remember the rash of burglaries last year that resulted in a build up of police and detectives, as well as many residents installing security systems. There were also posts on BPE about individual Policia approaching residents directly, and asking for gasolina, or "donations" for gasolina, for patrol vehicles. This last summer, myself and several other gringo residences north of LB, roughly a ten mile stretch of beach from Punta Pescadero to Boca Del Alamo, were hit by thefts. These remote areas include Las Tinas, El Cardonal, and San Isidro. As a result, a rotation of Policia have been stationed to patrol 24/7, in separate shifts, which is great. They are very visible, and myself, the local Mexican business owners, residents, and gringos are grateful for their presence. In mid October I went down to check my recently robbed Casa. My first day I was approached directly by Policia to donate for gasolina. Then again the next day, at my casa, by two different Policia. My gardener was urging my that other gringos in the area have been directly giving them $ or Gas. I asked their names and the name of their Commandante in Los Barriles, then told them I'd prefer to speak to the Commandante before making direct contributions. They returned the third day, by this time I had spoken with the Principal, (or Mayor) of El Cardonal, as well as a local Mexican Realtor. They were present on the third visit by the Policia, and it was decided that a formal account, or fund, would be established and maintained by El Cardonal Realtor Samuel Burquez, who has an office, Burquez Real Estate, on what is now the very nicely paved main street in Cardonal. Voluntary $ contributions for gas/food for police officers will be collected, recorded, and distributed by Sr. Burquez.
So, to all gringos with residences in the areas described above, please refrain from making direct contributions to Policia, and make all voluntary contributions, however large or small, to Samuel Burquez, of Burquez Real Estate in El Cardonal, he will provide you with a reciept. Then, if approached, you can explain to the Policia that you have already contributed to the "Gasolina Fund" being managed by Sr. Burquez! Thanks, Chris Q. quiglerock@aol.com

b. On behalf of all the UVERDE volunteers, we would like to express our deep gratitude for all the donations made to our rummage sale. We were able to put together quite a sale with all the goods you cleaned out of your closets. UVERDE is dedicated to increasing awareness and helping our community take care of our beautiful environment, mainly through our educational program in the schools. Thank you!!!

In addition, we were able to remove two truck loads of litter from our community in our campaign to Clean up Los Barriles. There is much less litter now than when we started this program 2 years ago. Little by little we see improvements regarding the litter problem.

As a side note, I would like to add 2 hard working volunteers to the previous post where I listed the new board members for 2009-2010:

Javier Cota who has dedicated a great amount of time and energy to this program and without whom, it would not exist. He will remain on our board of volunteers for the next year. Thank you Javier!

Luis Enqrique Lucero Meza - Subdelegado del Cardonal. The addition of his forces will enable UVERDE to create its first branch and implement our program in a neighboring community. This is very exciting!

Ghandi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. That is what we are doing.
