PROPERTY TAXES

a. PROPERTY TAX PAYMENTS & DISCOUNTS 2010: I tried to pay my property taxes online today at www.eloscabos.com  by entering my Clave #. My taxes showed Zero Due and would not allow me to pay early and take the 30% +/- discount. Last year in February I paid by credit card from California on line. It was quick and easy. I would like to pay now but the system wont let me pay a zero balance. Is it because they are due January 1, 2010 and you cant pay online until then? Please advise how I might pay online today and take advantage of the 30% property tax discount. Or advise if I have to pay cash in person to get the discount. My house is in Buena Vista. Thanks for your help. CW --- cewsacto1@aol.com

b. Here is to clarify any doubts that there may be regarding the La Paz County Property Taxes, you can go to their web page http://www.lapaz.gob.mx/predial/index.php

I hope this helps.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone......Jorge Ayala & Family

c. I have received several emails and I think the bottom line is if you pay in La Paz by 11/30 you will receive a 33%to35% discount. If you pay in Los Barriles you receive a 30%to33% discount. Experts, correct me if I'm wrong. Cheryl

Would someone like to share our Los Barriles PO Box? Half of the yearly fee would be N$143 pesos.

I read a comment on another website that when driving into Baja that if you don't get your tourist visa at the border that you could be paying an additional $50 fine. In the past, we've always gotten our stamp at the Guerrero Negro check station, and then paid it at a bank in Constitucion. Any advice? And if we do have to get it in Tijuana, where do you suggest? I really dislike stopping anywhere in Tijuana.

Thanks to Luis Camarena and his daughter Crystal Antares for a lovely evening of star gazing. In spite of the clouds, through Luis's telescope, we were able to view Jupiter and see three of its moons. Our moon was just right for good shadow contrast and we could see lots and lots of surface detail. And we learned many new things about the night sky. Do you know how to identify Cassiopeia? Luis sent me the night sky calendar for December. Looks like there will be some meteor showers that you can see without a telescope. Email me if you would like a copy of the calendar. Luis will keep me posted on night sky events that will warrant another star gazing gathering in January. burgin.holly@gmail.com

NON-PROFITS AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

a. The Rotary Diabetes Screening held after the parade last Friday was a smashing success. Over 100 of our local community members stopped by the diabetes screening tent to have their glucose tested along with their blood pressure! Many many thanks go to Rotarians Char Wenger and Barbara Fowler who co-chaired the Rotary event. A special thanks go to the workers from East Cape Community Urgent Care Clinic for their help as well as to fellow Rotarians Sherri King, Bob Ottis, Steve Fowler and Mary Hathaway. Rotary gathered important data in which to apply for a grant from Rotary International to carry on this important project. Over 500 pieces of educational material was also given to our community.

As you drive down Degollado take first right onto Zaragoza.. top floor, carpeted huge bedrooms, historic building amazing view, deck, high beamed ceilings, two bathrooms, unfurnished except for fridge and AC. You get on street personal parking space. Very sharp place. Lots of windows, closets. Must see. $500 dollars not pesos per month.has wifi.will take small Kitty not sure about dogs have to talk to owner who lives downstairs and has for several generations.. No leaks during rainy season huge bay type windows. Kitchen and bath tiled with huge living room all mirrors at one end. Even has a sort of dance floor. They say Cortez camped on this st. Reminds me of a New York Loft.
