ROAD ALERT!
I just got a phone call from Char. (1:10 pm Saturday, Oct 3) She
barely made it to Constitucion after witnessing a section of the
mountainous road between Loreto and Constitucion cave in. She says
it is very dangerous and probably impassable by now because the big
trucks will not be able to get through or turn around. Her advice is
do not try to go beyond Loreto today or tomorrow. It raining very
heavily right now and there are many mudslides in addition to the
road collapse.

We have driven the Baja for 15 years and always stay either in
Guerrero Negro or make the push to San Ignacio going south. This
year we thought we would compromise and stay in Vizciano. Can anyone
recommend a safe, clean hotel that would allow one small dog?

Does anyone know a good sign maker in the Los Barrilles area? We
need to erect a large, wooden, painted sign on our property
approximately 6' x 5'. It needs to be set in the ground on posts.

BORDER CROSSINGS
1. Written 10/2/09: Hi. About crossing the border with pets. We just
went through Tijuana with our cat. Got
a green light, but were pulled over anyway. Just a short look by
officer, but the cat container was sitting on top of our stuff and I
reached back and closed the door so she would not get out. He never
asked about pets at all! So I conclude they are not that fussy yet.
2. We crossed at Otay Mesa Sept. 26th. Between three vehicles, three
dogs and LOADS of household stuff it might have been the easiest
crossing in 18 years. We heeded the advice on BPE and spent lots of
money on health certificates and booster shots and tick medicine for
the tick 'problem'. It wasn't as if they didn't see the the German
Shepherds barking out the window. The border guards were not
interested AT ALL about the dogs. They were however, asking for
registration and any information on the off road vehicles
(motorcycles in this case). Roads were normal all the way down. Our
trucks with trailers and the 38' motor home made it without
incident. Drive carefully and have fun!
