Driving South
Yesterday, Wednesday: I heard from four southbound travelers who just completed the drive down on Tuesday and Wednesday. No problems at the border with stuff and/or pets and the roads were wide open.

Hi Cheryl...don't really believe it, but I was told recently by a part-time LB resident that the banks no longer exchange US dollars or Travelers checks into pesos and we have to go to La Paz or San Jose to do so. Any truth to this or is this person simply misinformed? Be a good idea to either confirm or squash for all of us about to return for the winter.

Re: Sharing a Dish Network Satellite TV Signal with Neighbors (BPE #651).

Any number of neighbors can share a single dish by installing a multi receiver switch and possibly line amplifiers to handle long cable runs.

But be aware that you can have problems if you attempt to share a single account among a number of receivers in different locations. This is called account "packing" and is risky. Dish Network can and will audit these accounts, especially because the receivers are not connected to a telephone line capable of dialing a US 800 number from the same telephone number.

There were a couple of "dealers" in the Los Cabos area who were doing this and selling one year of pre paid service at $1,200 per user per year. We've heard from a number of their clients recently who tried this and ended up getting their receivers shut down when Dish Network audited the accounts. Mysteriously, they could not reach their dealer to get their money back.
