Need to know if Starband satellite for internet is still working in the Baja. We've heard they are moving to another satellite, but we have requested to stay where we are. Anyone having trouble with Starband? What else can be used for internet connection besides 3G? Our cellular is iffy where we are located. We are headed south in a month or so and are trying to get communications organized. Thanks for any help! Steve travel1-2@hotmail.com

Regarding Immigration (Migracion) at Tecate border crossing.

Yes you may park just past the crossing gate at the Mexican border so you can get your FM- Stamped, but it is a tight turn and if the spots are taken you will have to look around town to park and walk back. You do not want to do this first time or ever if possible.

Just to the right BEFORE THE GATE There are two or three 30 Minute parking spots for your convenience while doing activities at the border. Park here, walk through gates and enter the Aduana/Migracion building. It is the only building on the right/ Go right inside to Migraciom. I believe that it is open every hour that the border crossing is open. Check your travel guide or AAA for hours. You can walk back through the gates to your car and drive through gates. Very fast and pleasant/ If all parking is occupied you can wait at the parking lot until one is open. don't park here to do your business with Migracion. Not much wait, no one wants to vacation at the border.

NEWS FROM LA PAZ

a. "Dia de los Muertos" Cultural Presentation
Se Habla...La Paz Spanish language school invites you to a special presentation Monday, November 2, 1:15 on the cultural significance of "Dia de los Muertos" ("Day of the Dead"). This is one of the most important traditional holidays in the Mexican culture.
This 1 hour presentation is in easy Spanish with handouts, a snack of traditional food and a typical altar in the entrance of the school.
After the presentation, we will go to Panteon San Juan, the oldest and largest cemetery in La Paz, to see the activities of Mexican families in remembrance of their departed, with Se Habla instructors, to further explain the customs.
For those without transportation, a van will be provided by ESPIRITU & BAJA TOURS COMPANY for the trip to the cemetery. (close to the school)
If you would give the school a call to let us know you will be joining us, 122-7763, or send an email to info@sehablalapaz.com,  we would appreciate it. Bienvenidos a todos.
(Don't miss the Dia de los Muertos exhibition at the Teatro Ciudad as well)

UVERDE Rummage Sale November 17th to raise funds for our non profit organization (location to be defined)
This is a great opportunity to clean out those closets and cabinets and donate your "extra stuff" to be sold for a great cause!!!
Please drop off the "goods" at La Casa de Vos, in the reception area for Vos en Construction.

UVERDE is dedicated to increasing awareness and helping our community take care of our beautiful environment.

Current projects include:
1. "Clean up Los Barriles", this event takes place twice a year: Mid November to show community spirit and prepare for the Fiestas de Noviembre and again in April to celebrate Earth Day with the Rotary Club
2. Local businesses and individuals "adopt" an area to maintain litter free
3. Educational Programs in the local primary school. This year we hope to add the secondary school as well as preparatoria. During the 2008-2009 school year a group of fifth graders produced the following slogan: THE FUTURE OF THE WORLD IN YOUR HANDS; PUT TRASH IN ITS PLACE!
4. Rotary Club has donated 260 canvas bags for us to take to the primary school where the students will draw on them and take them to their moms to use at the grocery store instead of the dreaded plastic bolsas.

Upcoming projects include:
5. Cow & dog proof garbage cans
6. Recycling (Lynn Mirassou has come forward to organize this program, we thank her for her energy and efforts to create this much needed program)
7. Education regarding carpooling and driving less
8. Reforrestation

Ghandi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. That is what we are doing.
