PETS
a. We came in via Alaska
Airlines on September 15th with our very large dog. I had her shot
records both from her vet here in Baja & a triplicate form signed by
a vet in the States also verifying her shots, plus a letter
certifying she was healthy & dated 4 days before our date of travel.
(The health exam must be done within 5 days of travel on Alaska
Airlines) I gave the papers & the letter to the Mexican agent at the
San Jose airport, she read them & told us, "Welcome back to Mexico,
have a nice day." She kept two of the American copies & the letter.
I did not need the shot form from our Mexican vet, just the one
filled out 4 days before we flew. It took less than 30 seconds. My
dog has had all of her immunizations, including kennel cough, but I
think they are most interested in the rabies shot being current.
b. We just returned from
cabo pulmo on Sept.11 one week after the hurricane. We drove down
from central Calif. August 24th going though the border at Tecate,
with our dog Susie Q. As always i get a rabies certificate and a
certificate of health from the Vet that is within 5 days of crossing
the border. We got a green light in Tecate this year and last year
we got a red light on both occasions we were never asked about our
dog or papers for the dog. Maybe it was because she is just to
cute?? we drove down stayed in Guerrero Negro and then to Los
Barriles to pick up a trailer in storage and proceeded to castillo
de arena. Driving home was also just fine besides going though all
the construction and the mess from the hurricane which was just
awful in Mulege and Santa Rosailia. We have never experienced any
kind of problems on our trips , everyone has always been extremely
nice and helpful. Your vet will tell you just what you need. We will
return again next year. Pete and Lorinda
rindyd@sbcglobal.net.
c. My husband and I fly
our cat down with us to Los Barriles every November for the winter,
the regs I believe are the same, you require a Vet certicate saying
that the cat is healthy and has a current rabies vaccine showing the
lot number, I take several copies because Mexico quite often wants
to keep a copy. This should be obtained 4-5 days prior to departure.
Same for return, we use Vet in LB.
Have not had any issues in 10 years...driving or flying...good luck,
safe travels, Joan and Ray

THERE IS AN INQUIRY IN
THE VAGABUNDOS DEL MAR WEBSITE OF A PERSON SEEKING INFORMATION RE:
HURRICANE JIMENA DONATIONS:
We are driving down end of October. Sounds like the roads from
border to Loreto are all ok for a large RV....yes?
Is there a place in Muleage that used clothing, etc is welcome and
will filter to those in need?
Is the Red Cross accepting $ in Muleage, or should the online
donations be best?
Thank you......mickeyandjane
IF YOU HAVE INFORMATION,
PLEASE POST ON BPE AND I WILL FORWARD IT. THANK YOU, JAMES H
Note: Dennis did mention in a previous email The Parish Priest,

IRS
a . I received an email
this am 9/25/09 stating that the deadline for reporting of the
Foreign Trust, etc. has been extended to October 15, 2009. Can
anyone else confirm this, please. Cheryl
b .Foreign Trust
Reporting Deadline Extended
John Dillinger - dillingercpa.com
September 23, 2009
U.S. Persons with property in a Fideicomiso, who have not filed the
required IRS Foreign Trust Forms, have an opportunity to become safe
with the IRS regarding penalties and criminal investigation.
On September 21, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service announced a
one-time extension of the deadline for special voluntary disclosures
by taxpayers with unreported income from hidden offshore accounts.
These taxpayers now have until Oct. 15, 2009
Under special provisions issued in March, taxpayers with these
hidden accounts originally had until Sept. 23, 2009 to come forward.
Those taxpayers who do not voluntarily disclose their hidden
accounts by the new deadline face much harsher civil penalties,
where applicable, and possible criminal prosecution.
IRS officials decided to extend this deadline after receiving
repeated requests from tax practitioners and attorneys around the
country following an influx of taxpayer requests. By extending the
deadline for a short period of time, the IRS is providing relief for
those taxpayers who had intended to come forward prior to the
deadline, but faced logistical and administrative challenges in
meeting it.
The extension will allow tax preparers and attorneys the necessary
time to interview and advise their backlog of taxpayers with these
hidden accounts, and prepare the necessary paperwork to qualify for
the special penalty provisions. The IRS also announced that there
will be no further extensions.
