     I am so very sorry to let all of our friends & family her in East cape area know that my sweetheart Susie Ryan has entered the Boulder County Hospice program.

She would appreciate all of her friends taking the opportunity to tell her thru her Guestbook, how she made all of our life's so much richer. To those of you, who were not privileged yet to know her? You may remember her as she rode her "Trikke" thru the streets La Ribera and Los Barriles. She was at a glance the epitome of grace and beauty as she soared and danced her way through our lives on her three-wheeled Trikke.
     Last week I lost my little dog Apollo. He went before her and last night told me & Ella (his love) that he has a very special place for the two of them. It's sunny and warm and they have a great place to Trikke and swim. As I Trikke everyday, I revel in the joy of Trkking down the hill in La Ribera with the wind at my face. I imagine they are there with me, dancing and soaring! Oh so ever gracefully! For that moment at least, I soar with the joy that I shared almost everyday of our lives together. Oh how I miss them! May peace find us all, and help us wash away our sorrows.

Courteous and inexpensive tire sales and service in La Paz
A couple of weeks ago I was in La Paz for a doctors appointment, and when I came out to my truck had a flat tire. A Mexican kid whose name I did not get, changed the tire for me and then escorted us over to ‘Llantera El Chivo’ to get my tire fixed. It turns out it was not the tire, but the valve stem. Llantera El Chivo replaced the valve stem, and then checked the other three tires, and found that yet another valve stem was also dried out needed replacement. This whole procedure took less than ½ an hour and he charged me about $12 for it all. El Chivo was courteous, did not rip me off, and spoke English very well. Llantera El Chivo is a neat and organized shop on the corner of Altamirano and Guerrero. He is a full service sales and repair of tires. The Miraflores Pemex.  Beginning this season I have had the attendant short the amount of gas he was to have given me by 100 pesos. (Meaning you give him 200 pesos and you get only 100 worth of gas.) The first time it happened I thought I must have been mistaken by about how low my tank was to begin with. Yesterday my husband filled up with the amount we have always bought there and we were still down by 1/3 of the tank less than we should have been. Checking with friends, others have felt something wasn't right either. If anyone can figure out their game, please pass on the info. In the meantime, beware..

A friend of mine recently lost her husband suddenly here in southern Baja and she asked me to forward this letter to you. She wanted to share her positive experience and thought people who read the Baja Pony Express might be interested.

     I recently had the unfortunate experience of my husband dying suddenly while we were camped on the beach at Los Frailes. I wanted to share with you the nature of this experience. As you may know, Los Frailes is on a gravel road 20 miles from the nearest town of La Ribera. In the past, I have had concerns about the possibility of this situation arising and wondered what would happen. I had heard some horror stories from others and wanted to share my experience through this process. Through this experience I had dealings with the La Ribera Police Force who came to the beach and then the next morning made appointments for me with the San Jose Police Force, the Coroners office, and the American Consulate. The Consular representative Edgar Arias met us in San Jose and acted as interpreter and walked us through the necessary procedures and paperwork. At the end of the day, the Civil Registor in San Jose had already closed for the day and they opened their office back up to complete the paperwork so that we would not have to make the 2 hour drive back to town the next day. The Cabo San Lucas Funeral Home Director also met us in San Jose to complete those details as well. Everyone that I dealt with was very considerate and helpful. It was a very difficult day that they helped to make a bit easier. I feel that sometimes the only reports we hear about the police force and other officials is negative and I wanted to let you know of my positive experience with them. I am very grateful for all of their help through this difficult process.

Feb. 18, Thursday, photography slide show: Charles Chandler presents a slide show and video of his Baja works. The presentation is at 7 p.m. in the Sala de Conciertos de la Ciudad de La Paz (the concert hall of the state music school, the Escuela de Música del Estado). This is a benefit for the music school.
