The FIRST ANNUAL ROTARY CLUB CARNAVAL on Friday, February 12th is turning into the event of the year! All of the raffle tickets for the new Kawasaki Quad are SOLD! Drawing at 8PM in the Cancha.

BUT WAIT....THERE'S MORE: All of the 150 dinner tickets are sold out! Please be sure that you bring your ticket if you want dinner....as Confucius said, 'no tickee, no laundry" or as Senor Confucius said, "no tickee, no Mardi Gras dinner!" The bar will be open at 5PM right after the parade.

BUT WAIT....THERE'S MORE: We hear tell that the CORONA GIRLS may be in the parade....and....heart be still... they may be at the dinner! The parade route is from the Fountain to the road that Chango used to be on...you know, the one past Tio's. If you need to get back to your car...take that road behind Chapito's and the Plaza and you will be right back at the hardware store. Get in line at 3:30PM. You will get a bag of candy and bead necklaces to throw to those watching the parade....now don't hog the stuff...throw it!

BUT WAIT....THERE'S MORE: The Rotary Club feels that it is important that ALL non-profit groups need to be showcased. Therefore they are invited to march in the parade and have a table set up at the Cancha to sell tickets to their events or merchandise. Please support them!

About the Gas Stations (PEMEX):

       Any "strange" service or less gas for what you pay can be reported to the Mexican Federal Consumer Protection Bureau (PROFECO - Procuradoría Federal del Consumidor). Once they get a report, specially with the pump stations, and once the "order" is processed, they send a party to inspect any mis-usage on the PEMEX equipment. If they are doing wrong, the PEMEX franchise under analysis gets a fine and even closed until they are back to normal/legal operation.
       PROFECO also helps with any other consumer problem. In somethings they are now very effective and some commercial/stores in bigger cities panic if you mention that you will report them to PROFECO as their fines can be tough. In some other cases PROFECO unfortunately can't help much but you might want to try it.

A CONCERT TO SUPPORT A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY THROUGH RECYCLING
Poolside, under the stars, with Alex DePue and Miguel de Hoyos

     The recycling program in Los Barriles has a new direction! We have been offered a parcel of land on which to store recycle collections. This is a fund-raising event to provide for the grading and fencing of that area as a drop-off center, and our first step toward building a permanent recycling program for the community.
     You may have enjoyed an evening with Alex and Miguel in the past, but hearing them under a beautiful night sky should provide a special treat! This event is sponsored by UVERDE, generously hosted by East Cape RV Resort and held around their lovely pool area.
Wine and beer will be offered for sale. Assorted delicious desserts and coffee will be served.
Come for conversation with friends at 6:30. Concert will begin at 7:00. Plus, a special guest performance during intermission. Please bring a comfortable lawn chair if you have one

b. For the person / persons who questioned new security procedures involved in flying out of the San Jose airport, I just flew out last Thursday, Jan. 28. Nothing has changed...not even a little. Same hand search of checked and carry on luggage, carry on goes through X ray screening, random selection hand search of carry on luggage at departure gate. First, we are hosting a Pre-Game Championship Horseshoe Tournament on Super Bowl Sunday! Play in “Smokey’s Inaugural Super Sunday Invitational Championship Hoss Shoe Pitchin’ Tourney and BBQ” will begin around noon depending on number of teams and will be double-elimination format. The cost to enter is $400 pesos per team. Teams consist of two persons and women are encouraged and welcome to participate. Games will be played to 21 points. The pits will be regulation 40’. Women will be permitted to throw from 30’. Please sign up at Smokey’s as soon as you can so we can get the tourney brackets done and let teams know their approx. start times
The Pot will be paid out as follows:

Second, we are hosting a live band, “Pura Vida” and they will be playing until just before game time (approx. 1:00-4:00 p.m.) so you don’t want to miss them!
