Today we were shopping in San Jose at 11 AM and on the main street out of town going to the highway, we were stopped and asked for the driver's license and car registration. The officer was very nice and there was no problem, but I assumed it was only the Federal Police doing this, but in San Jose, the local police are stopping ONLY foreign licensed cars. We saw two other American cars stopped after we left.. Jim

Los Barriles has come a long way for the youth. There is new an organized soccer competition taking place that includes Los Barriles and several of the surrounding towns. There are two teams in need of uniforms without the means to pay for them. We’re asking for donations (nothing big) to cover the costs. Uniforms run about 250 pesos and each team needs 10. It works out to about 5,000 pesos or 400 dollars. I have donated the first 100 dollars and anything you could give would be great. I will be arriving in Los Barriles on or about March 4th and will be offering house and pet sitting services for those in our region. I have extensive experience with pets and do have a residence in town, but would love to do the odd house/pet sit for a week here and there. I will look after everything in your home, if you so wish, or I can offer minimal daycare services. Pets would need to be picked up by no later than 6:00pm on the day of drop off and I would be able to take only one per day. Hola Vecinos!
This Saturday 20th of Feb at Hotel Buenavista Beach Resort we are going to have two very interesting events. One is our Charity Sunrise Sierra Tournament and the other is Cooking classes.
We will be giving one class on Saturday, starting at 4 will end around 7 Pm.
The cost of the class is 350 pesos.
The subject of the class is the anti-inflammatory diet.
We will start with a discussion of what is inflammation, how it affects our health and how our diet affects the inflammatory process within our body.
We will then prepare a highly anti-inflammatory meal.

The menu is as follows:
Tomatillo Corn Soup
Avocado pear salad with cilantro dressing
Fish with a cilantro pesto
Red beet risotto
Roasted cauliflower with ginger and tumeric
Farina pudding with fresh fruit

The best part of the class is eating everything that is prepared. We will provide each participant with copies of the recipes, information on a website that is very useful for calculating inflammatory ratings for various foods, and a handout explaining the principles of the anti-inflammatory diet.

And for the tournament we will start at 6am at our beach. Remember this is a Tournament to support the children from the Internship/Orphanage School in Santiago, that carries many kids from the community so they can go to school. We have for the winner a full day fishing trip on a Super Panga or Half day fishing trip on a Cruiser or $200USD. Please help us on this effort to give something to the kids.
