Positive story! We drove the Baja several weeks ago and stayed at the Desert Inn, Guerrero Negro. I left a suitcase but did not discover it until the next evening. I had no receipt (paid cash), no phone number. In Los Barriles, Rosa and Douglas Steere helped us locate and contact the hotel, asked if they had the bag and would they hold it for our return. Yes and yes! We picked up our forgotten bag, all intact with jewelry, Kindle etc at the Desert Inn, Guerrero Negro. They wouldn't take a reward. Very impressive and kind. Bill Blatchford

Hola amigos and Happy New Year! 2010 promises to be full of special events sponsored by our local non-profit organizations....all for good causes. We're grateful to the BPE for publishing the dates for all of these events since they raise funds to support our community. One of the first of the new year is the 2nd Historic Building Tour in San Antonio scheduled for Sunday, January 17 from 10:00am to 3:00 pm sponsored by the Asociacion de Artes. Pre-tour tickets are on sale at the Baja Beach Company for $100 pesos. If you get your tickets before 2:00pm on Saturday, January 16, you'll save $50 pesos! The event includes a guided history of all the historic buildings (including a description of the Mendoza ghost), a display of arts and crafts created by local San Antonio artists, a delicious buffet provided by the ladies of San Antonio and an opportunity to learn more about the oldest continuously occupied community in all of the Californias (including California Alta) Proceeds from this event will support the Pottery Program for students at the San Antonio Arts and Culture Center. email JoAnn at eastcapers@yahoo.com  for further information.

(The religious calendar puts Carnaval on the weekend of February 12th ending with Ash Wednesday on February 17th.  La Paz has been known to change the dates because of elections.   I started to look into this last week but I have not received a firm answer yet. b. Wanted: Hobie 16 parts. This season's storms managed to dismast and otherwise damage some parts to my Hobie 16. Though we enjoy fooling around in this boat I don't think it's worth significant investment to put it back in operation. So on the off chance that there are other Hobies out there that are not exactly seaworthy in their present condition, perhaps we could combine/sell/trade/buy enough of each other's parts to put at least one of these fun boats back in the water. Anyone interested?
