SENDING MAIL TO MEXICO

Response to question regarding mail from "The Baja Survivor's Guide" edited by Lee Moore of La Paz: page 11 - "General delivery mail addressed to you at Lista de Correos is held for only ten days. If you are not sure you will be able to collect it within that time, the mail should instead be marked Favor de Retener Hasta Llegada or Please hold until arrival and be addressed to you at Postal Restante . You've got to ask for it at the window. This entry by Arturo Garcia Flores, Todos Santos Postmaster
Also, the zip code or codigo postal goes in front of Mexico on the last line of a Mexican address, for example, C.P. 23305 Mexico. Letters from up north addressed to you in this way will get to you faster, since they won't possibly first be sent to the American locale with the same zip code.

DISCUSSION: FM papers and cars

a. I am curious where this info came from on only being able to drive a car here with an FM2 or FM3, or tourist card. . I have lived here for over 20 years and never heard of such a thing. First of all, when have you every been asked for your Legal papers by a policeman? I even tried to offer my FM2 once and they didn't even want to see it, it is of no interest to them. They don't even want to see your passport. Plus, it's not a document you need to carry with you 24/7. It's strictly for Immigration status and that's it, so if someone has more info on this, I would appreciate what real info you have on it and please post for all here.

DOGGIE HOTELS IN LA PAZ

a. Hacienda del Sol in El Comitan is VERY dog friendly. I will be heading down next Friday with my two Golden Retrievers. www.hacienda-sol.com  I stayed there last year and it is similar to visiting family who are actually fun to be with (unlike some of my blood relatives). I look forward to staying with Renate and Eberhard once again. They also have a small RV park (nine units if I recall correctly) but probably most are filled for the winter. Ross, Santa Fe New Mexico

b. A dog-friendly Bed and Breakfast in La Paz is Casa Buena B&B, located on Belasario Dominguez between Sinaloa and Sonora, just one block off of Abasolo. Walled property and secure parking area. Contact Milton Sanders at miltuna@hotmail.com  or call at 01-612-122-5538. If you call to make reservations, be sure to ask for their security code on the walk-in gate. Also, Belasario is now one-way heading to down-town, so you have to turn off of Abasolo onto Sinaloa and then turn left on Belasario. Look for large wooden gate at the driveway.

CREATURES IN THE WATER!

a. Recent BPE asked for identification of the multitude of small chains of translucent creatures washed up on the beaches a few days ago.
They are Salps, a pelagic organism, multicellular animal. More info in this attached link.

b. Did some research today and feel that the "noodle-things" in the water off of LB and North Beach are probably Salps. (Thaliacea salpida) They are a plankton-type organism that is found in the Sea of Cortez. I am contacting researchers who are familiar with them to get a good website with info that can be shared. Will give you an update when I hear back. Meanwhile www.jellieszone.com  has great photos of these. Not supposed to be harmful (as in stinging). More later...
