Notes: Common sense
request. If you recommend a business or service please include your
name and email address. If you are in need of a product or service
ask on the BPE for a recommendation. That way, you should get good
reports and maybe even a bad experience will be shared with you
personally so you can make a good decision.
I keep thinking I should write a disclosure, you know, one of those
long paragraphs that says I'm not responsible for anything at any
time or anywhere especially anything concerning your grandchildren

Recently it was reported that in San Quintin, The Old Mill changed
owners, and that Don Eddies burned down. I spoke with Nancy at the
Old Mill this morning and received clarification. The "restaurant"
at The Old Mill changed hands and is being remodeled to open soon.
Don Eddies "restaurant" burned and is being rebuilt. Both are open
for lodging. Happy trails!

Driving south through Ciudad Constitution I recently realized how
some of the "bite" is taking place by the cops there. At the last
stop light going south (the light was very green) - standing in the
median between the 'store' street and the thorough-fair, was a five
foot tall stop-sign on a moveable stand. If I hadn't been paying
extra attention due to the ongoing police problems, I would surely
have concentrated only on the light, and run the stop sign. Yes, I
stopped- much to the chagrin of the other driver in our caravan--
until he saw the sign also. Green light or not- the sign is always
the dominant law. As I was not concentrating on the north bound
lanes, either there are other signs like this one, or they move the
sign around to change the legalities of the stop lights at their

a. Answer to question in BPE #858, July 15th. This is a resubmittal
of my earlier comment to the BPE with an update
I have been doing some research lately on the diesel being supplied
locally here in LB. After a couple trips to the Pemex I was finally
given a telephone # for Pemex in La Paz where a very knowledgeable
Pemex technician confirmed that Pemex is not yet supplying Ultra Low
Sulfer Diesel (15 parts per million (ppm)) as required by diesel
engines manufactured after 2006 in the USA. He confirmed that their
Diesel is currently running between 420 - 460 ppm, which conforms to
the 500 ppm that was the USA standard prior to 2007. He said
"someday" Mexico would start supplying the Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel,
but not yet.
I also talked to Cesar, the owner of the NAPA Auto repair shop in
San Jose del Cabo, and he stated that Pemex was still not providing
the Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel. He further stated that by burning the
500 ppm diesel in the newer engines is probably asking for problems
sooner or later.
A further update to my earlier message........
I talked to a person who has a friend that drove a new diesel down
to Mexico. The first time, he had no problems, the second time the
engine quit. He had to have the vehicle hauled back to the USA where
it cost him $12,000 US dollars to have the motor rebuilt.
