Update from Donna and Woody
We live on a bluff above the beach in Buena Vista--just north of
Vista Del Mar. The banditos were driving a dark green or black later
model Jeep--maybe stolen. We spent all day at the police station in
Los Barriles the following day. They seemed truly horrified at the
events of that nite. The police should have a good description of
these guys, as there were a number of residents who saw them on the
day of the robbery, causing problems in town. The two men, dressed
nicely, were accompanied by two skanky looking women--dirty and
smelly, and two toddlers. We have not been informed of any progress
on our case yet.
We were attacked because we had become complacent and negligent
about personal and property security. We have taken steps to correct
this. We are installing another pair of motion-sensor security
lights on our driveway, a new pair on the beach and the stairs
coming up to the house, and on the dark side of the house. The gates
will always be locked. Dogs are the best security alarms in the
world. If you have a dog, great, two or more is even better!!!
We are installing a super-loud horn-siren panic alarm that can be
activated from the house or the yard. If we feel threatened in any
way, the alarm is a great way to discourage someone who is
approaching. We have some defense in the house that will stop
someone in his tracks.
The BEST DEFENSE IS A NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH. MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS,
EXCHANGE PHONE NUMBERS AND LET EACH OTHER KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY
SUSPICIONS ABOUT STRANGERS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
We hope that our horrible experience will be a wake-up call to all
residents...........

OOPS! Last notice had the wrong hours.
Important Update to Tio Pablo's Summer Hours: Beginning Monday,
August 2nd, Tio's will be open from 4 PM - 10 PM every day for
summer
hours. (Apologies for the incorrect hours published in the last
BPE!!)
Come have a drink in Tio's new indoor/outdoor bar. Or, if a
hurricane's a-comin', enjoy the benefits of Tio's gigantic power
generator! Regular hours will resume October 2. Happy hurricane
season!

GAS STATION
a. I stopped at new gas station to get gas last week. I paid with
500 pesos . I looked back at the pump , when I looked back at
him he was holding 50 pesos and claimed I had not give him enough
money, thinking I had made a mistake gave him another 500. Down the
street I got to thinking about it , counted my money and was 500
short. I went back and confronted him and got my 500 pesos back. he
is not one of the younger guys that you usually see pumping gas,
he's older.

b. In response to the problem at the newer Pemex station, we
translated the comments and gave a copy to
the men in the office ( where you can get a factura ). They were
quite upset and disturbed about this.
They do not want this kind of problem. There was one attendant in
there at the time who spoke English, Hernan, and he
knew about the BPE. He asked that customers please report to him or
go into the office if there is any problem.
At this point, they cannot correct the matter unless the person
comes forward and is able to identify
the attendant. I told Hernan I would put something on the
BPE......he said "thank you".
We all have to be willing to step up when we see things like this.
Let's not let this ruin a great station.

HOT TIP
a. WEEDS: Here's a recipe for weed killer that has the power of
RoundUp for a fraction of the price. Mix two cups ordinary table
salt into one gallon of white vinegar that has five percent acidity.
Add eight drops liquid dishwashing soap. Label and keep out of reach
of children. This is not toxic, but it will kill any and all
vegetation, even the good stuff, so be careful where you spray it.
Another caution: Spraying this multiple times in the same area will
sterilize the soil so that nothing will grow there for a long time.
It is ideal for killing weeds that grow between cracks in your
sidewalk and other areas where you don't want vegetation.
