A.L.M.A. is in need of someone to foster care 3 puppies (about 10 weeks old). This would be a short term commitment, as they are scheduled to fly north to new homes on October 22nd. They are used to being outside, and we can supply a pen to keep them contained. If anyone would like to volunteer to help us, please call Sheila Marshall at 624 13 77683 (cell.) or email at: bajasheila@yahoo.com

"As the beautiful summer begins winding down here in Los Barriles, we are
starting to see the return of those who enjoy wintering here on the East
Cape. Times have changed and there are many folks with a variety of
interests that mostly revolve around the beautiful Sea of Cortez. We have
swimmers, bathers, snorkelers, scuba divers, kayakers, windsurfers,
kiteboarders, paddlers, sailors, power boaters, fishermen and the list goes
on and on...One of the main attractions for those that recreate in this area
is the freedom that comes without so many of the rules that are found in
various parts of the world. This does not excuse any of us from using simple
common sense, respecting human rights and extending courtesy towards others.
It is important to keep this in mind to avoid personal injury to oneself and
those surrounding you. Yesterday, I was nearly run over in the water by two
inconsiderate men fishing in an aluminum boat based out of one of our local
trailer parks. This was the second and much more serious of two separate
incidents that occurred this week by the same two men in the same boat in
the same area. Only a last minute yell and splash on my part drew the
attention of the driver of the boat. The passenger was watching the lures
trailing in the water. This is a normal fishing technique for offshore
trolling, but inappropriate when trolling less than 100 yards off the beach
in only 10 feet of water where it is more common to find swimmers, bathers
and divers. Boats with hard bottoms, whirling propellers, dragging a
multitude of lures equipped with several razor sharp hooks should AVOID
fishing so close to shore in what now is a substantial residential
community. There are miles of uninhabited shoreline that are open for safe
and responsible, close inshore fishing. I encourage all those who enjoy the
ocean to utilize many of the boating and swimming/diving safety courses
offered in most of the areas of the USA and Canada and please show a little
respect and common sense towards those sharing the wonderful Sea of Cortez.
Gracias! makomarkos"

QUESTIONS

a. I have a house under construction using a local contractor and his crew, they are building pretty much 99% of the project, while I and my friend took on building a retaining wall utilizing 1-2 local laborers to help out. I'm doing about 70% supervision, 30% hands-on and my friend is doing more hands-on. Both my friend and I had left the country for 1 month and now my builder tells me the Government came by, as there were reports of Two Americans working on the site. I do understand the fact that we are taking work away from the Mexicans, but realistically we are doing perhaps only 1% of the overall project and this is one way to keep my self busy while overseeing the contractor/Construction.

Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Is this true that the Home Owner himself who is doing everything legal, above board, paying for all permits and paying Social Security not allowed to work on his or her own property? Are you not allowed to have a friend/relative help out free of charge as well? What are the consequences if they are to return and find me/us working? Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated. You can respond to BPE or to hansinator1@yahoo.com  Thanks
