Hola amigos....The Parent's Committee at the Escuela Primaria in Los
Barriles is putting on a "Casa Embrujada" (Haunted House) Friday
October 29th. The pre-Halloween event will be held at the Escuela
Primaria from 4:00pm to 6:30pm (mas o menos) The committee is raising
money to expand the school and thought this event would be profitable
and fun! The parents remembered the Casa Embrujada the Asociacion de
Artes sponsored for several years and asked us to help. Fortunately we
still have the coffin, the smoke machine, some costumes and the
blow-up ghost! The committee now needs help with the following
things: donations of candy, costumes (masks, etc), prizes for best
kid's costume ( table games, crayons, dvds, etc), and volunteers to
help out during the event. Candy and prizes can be delivered to
Magnolia's office at Plaza del Pueblo. Volunteers can contact Diana
Peralta Jimenez, la Presidenta of the Parent's Committee at her cell
phone: 624-137-6907 or via email at dianaperalta_jimenez@hotmail.com.
See you on the 29th. JoAnn

******SALON 911 - NEXT TO FREDDY'S TIRE STORE AND CARMEN'S CAFE******
HATS OFF!!! (or hair off, if you want to put it that way!!!...:-)) If you find yourself in need of a cut, color or style (for your hair - you men), over the weekend - go see Titi (Tee-Tee) over at Salon 911. She is only open on Saturday and Sunday (days that Sandy at Palmas is closed or VERY busy - yes, we all LOVE Sandy!). She is REALLY great and incredibly reasonable. She has all the latest styles and colors and if you let her know ahead of time, she can do extensions and weaves too. She does hair for men, women and children - maybe the occasional pero or two...:-))) I've had my hair cut in many salons all over the world - and I can personally say she is VERY well qualified!!

MAGIC JACK: I just wanted to give you all some feedback on the Magic
Jack since I have been using one for over two years.
Yes buy the 5 year plan....
Yes it works with any phone...
Yes you need decent internet access....
Yes it does allow you to call any US number for free and vise versa.

The Voice mail is great. You can set it up where it will send your
messages right to your E-mail address as a media file so you can get
your messages even if its not plugged in.
You can also forward it to another number, like your Cell phone or
another US home phone line.
Overall great product for making calls from Mexico to the US or other
Magic Jacks in Mexico.
Suggestions: You can buy a little "Mini-Phone" at Fry's Electronics
for $8 bucks. Its the size of a cell phone & has a head set. Then you
can make calls from anywhere on the road VIA Laptop & Wi-Fi without
hauling around a large Ma-Bell phone. Works great!!!!

b. My family has been to LB many years in the past but we have never
driven down. We are thinking of driving from Portland to LB in

drive down Baja right now but I get the impression that many are still
doing it with no problems, from reading the BPE postings. Can this
community provide me with some advice on if we should do this or not?
Many thanks! My email address is: Mail@the-shore.net

c. My name is Raissa. I’ve been living in La Paz now for about 4 years and I go
home to Los Barriles ever weekend. I was walking in the Centro last week and I
came across this shop and I wanted to share it with you. It’s called “Sabores de Mexico."
In talking with the person that was at the counter she explained to me
that they are newly created 100% organic STORE that sells pasta, and spices,
vinegar, bread, salts, rubs, liquors, vegetables (fresh every Wednesday),
coffee and many other things. She explained to me that if it wasn’t in the
store, she could try and order it and she was very helpful (since they are still
starting up, I don't think they know what people want yet-hence the ordering).
They help small organic businesses in BCS and promote organic eating. They are
going to open a restaurant and school next door very soon. I was very impressed
by their inventory and I know how many people have been looking for an organic
store lately. Their website (www.saboresdemexico.com )  has a bunch of recipes and
wonderful things and they have been very helpful every time I was there. They
are located in La Paz, on Francisco I Madero between 5 de Mayo and Constitucion
(if you know La Paz on the street one below the Cathedral going to the Malecon).
Please come and support this business.
