Just a week ago my new TV stopped working in the middle of
turning it "on". All I could see on the screen was the
manufacturer's logo. Remembering that most appliances today
have some sort of computer running in the back ground, I
decided to "re-boot" the TV. Unplug, wait 30 seconds and
re-plug the power. Works perfectly now. A huge number of
TV's actually run a version of the Linux operating system.
Just last summer, a good friend has a really high tech stove
that was pretty much inop. The manufacturer's rep said she
would need a new circuit board for about $800. Today,
circuit board means computer. I found the controlling
Circuit Breaker (easier than moving the stove to find the
cord), removed power for 30 seconds and now the stove works
just fine!
