Note: I feel
the vibration of the migration so BPEs will be longer and more
frequent. PLEASE keep your notices as short as possible without
compromising important info. My biggest complaint has
always been length. As Dr. Seuss would say, "So the writer who
breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader
who reads." or Motto#2 KISSS=KeepItShortSweetSimple.

the middle of November this year. All of us instructors are
excited about the upcoming season of yoga, Pilates, Dance and
Postural Awareness, ....we will have our regular teachers: Sefi
teaching Pilates, Fusion and her new offering of Zumba classes,
Jackie with 3 levels of yoga classes and meditation and Camilla with
her fun Samba and Afro-Cuban Dance class. We would like to mention
that there will be 2 new instructors: Anne Herschleb will be
offering an evening Pilates Intro class and also Beginner and
Intermediate Pilates classes. Annalisa Valentine will offer 2
weekly Egoscue Postural Classes....So, a very exciting line-up.
More details later as each instructor gives you info and times
about their individual classes.
I also will mention that if you are interested in any of our
classes, please be sure to bring down your own personal mat. This
is for hygienic reasons. You can always use one of the studio mats
underneath your mat for more cushioning. See you soon!

As you pack up your cars and suitcases for your return to Baja,
please remember the animals. We are in desperate need of collars and
crates this season. If you could swing by the dollar store and grab
a handful of collars and leashes for us, we would truly appreciate.
Some people have already written to tell me they found crates at
garage sales or second hand stores for a fraction of what they cost
here. We need these for our spay/neuter clinics and to help
transport animals to their forever homes. Thanks for being an Amigo
de los Animales!

Death and Dying in Mexico Courtesy of Sheryl Hamilton editor
of LaPazGringos
For those of us who have chosen to live and therefore conceivably
die here in Mexico, here are some valuable tips to make sure
everything is in order.
1. Make sure you have a Mexican Will and a trusted
executor to make sure your beneficiaries get your vehicle(s) and
other personal belongings. Put any secondary beneficiaries on the
will too, i.e. children, parents etc. They have “will month” twice a
year here, September and either March or April, when you get a
reduction in price for your wills.
2. Keep in regular contact with your friends,
particularly those who live here alone. Inform someone close to you
about how you would like your remains to be handled in case the
original will is not immediately available.
3. Whomever you entrust to take care of your remains
will need:
- Color copy of your passport (several are better)
- Copy of current immigration status (the page with the
picture is sufficient)
- Copy of your registered will (in Spanish)
- Extra set of keys to your house.
- Phone number of relative to be notified in the US (or
wherever).
- Names of the parents (or next of kin)
- Status of friend or relative of person taking care of
your remains (passport and FM3 or FM2).
As always, having a Spanish speaking person around helps and you may
wish to hire an interpreter for a few hours.
4. If someone dies, apparently you can do one of two
things:
- call the police. The police and a coroner will come and check for
the cause of death, and give you a temporary certificate.
- or, the person who discovers the body can report the death to the
Judiciales in person, and they are open 24hrs a day. A
representative of the Judiciales will go with you to the house and
arrange for a Coroner’s vehicle, which might take several hours.
Wait with them, as they will tell you what to do next after the body
is removed. (Remember this is La Paz. We need to clarify
EastCape)
5. After the body is removed, you must go to the
funeral parlor (in La Paz) pay a deposit and fill out a number of
forms. Make sure the spelling of the name is correct. The funeral
parlor is open 24 hrs a day, the fee for a cremation is 8,060.00
pesos, and the funeral home will contact the US consulate (not sure
about Canadians?). They will also take you to the Procuradoria
General de Justicia, Medical Examiner’s office for the official
report, which then was certified in the office of the Judiciales in
the same building. Both are open 24hrs a day. Then back to the
funeral parlor for a temporary certificate.
6. The funeral home will issue a certificate of
disposition of the body the next day, and their representative will
take you to the Records Office for the registration of death.
Certified death certificates (Acta Certificado de Defuncion) can be
obtained at this office. The Consulate will call you and you will
have to go there with the death certificate, which they then will
“authenticate” to be used for insurance and other purposes.
Remember that you need a death certificate for every account,
mortgage, stocks etc the deceased has in the U.S. (Canada, etc ?)
Other points to remember:
- The person who inherits your property is named in the
fideicomiso, regardless of what you say in your will. If you want
someone else to inherit your property, you will have to change the
fideicomiso at a Notaria Publica.
- If the deceased has a bank account here, the bank will
have to be notified and given a death certificate and a copy of the
will. If the beneficiary of the account is abroad, he/she will have
to provide a birth certificate, copy of passport, and a “carta de
solicitud” (request for release of the monies) in Spanish. All three
of these documents have to be “apostilled” in the U.S. by the state
department. If a different beneficiary is listed in the will than
in the file the bank holds, the original bank document prevails. (Apostille
is a way to have legal documents mutually recognized by other
countries.)
- You will need to cancel their P.O. box, etc

Many of you may be confused by the last Pony Express. There are two
animal groups on the East
Cape. ALMA, which is located in Los Barriles, President Sheila
Marshall 044-624-137-7683. And,
Amigo de los Animales, located in La Ribera, President Pam Gray

Both groups would like to thank you for your support.

If you plan to come down to the East Cape coming winter season
please help me to find donated boxing gloves (used or new 16,14oz.
are the most needed, 8-10oz for ladies and kids ) will be a great
help for our group, our trainer Jose Salas (from Cuba, he is now
nacionalized Mexican) is a great human being, he is doing wonderful
social work in La Paz keeping youngsters out of vice and kids and
ladies from obesity, his fee in minimum, almost ridiculous (about
$50usd a month!!) and part of that goes to keep the gym going!! We
are a bout 120 people in 5 different classes from 6:30am to 8pm,
from all ages, shapes and economics back grounds and most of his
students can afford to buy their own pair of gloves. And like always
we can´t expect any help from our government. Our little gym lacks
everything, but we solve many things with creativity, but gloves and
bandages are the biggest issues. Saludos. Vero Velasco 624

ATM DISCUSSION
a. This is in response to the written statement about lost money at
Bancomer.
Last year I went to withdraw money from the Los Barriles branches
ATM. I also requested $ 5000.00 pesos. The machine made lots of
noise but nothing came out. Noticed next day that the money was
withdrawn from our state side account.
The special assistant to helping said there was nothing they could
do from their side. I wrote my bank in the state and they did
retrieve the money back for me. Dennis Reilly told me I should have
talked to him right away, as he has many dealings with Bancomer. He
is good to have at ones back. Bless him.
No problems the rest of the year we were there. Cynthia
b. Update: ATM Complaint at Bancomer via
Todos Santos Thank you all for your support, advice and
words of encouragement. I tried to email everyone individually, and
I apologize if I missed anyone. I received so many emails telling
the same story at Bancomer and also many from Banorte, Banoro and
others. Seems to me that this is very rampant and unexceptable. I
spoke with my bank, CIBC, and insisted that they reopen my complaint
file and also that I posted an article in the BWO. I then called
CIBC bank on Saturday to tell them I was flooded with emails from
people who have had the same experience. I would like to bundle all
these emails together and present them to both my bank and Bancomer
when I return to Todos Santos in either December or January -- that
is unless anyone would like to stay anonymous (just let me know).
So, again, thanks to all who wrote. I hope to have this resolved and
have money back in my account in time for our return - Doris
