Baja Shakespeare is thrilled to announce their 11th Annual
Production: The Wild Adventures of Pericles Cosmic Space
Traveler. Pericles is a rarely performed romance, one that
most Shakespeare buffs have never seen. We’ve found ways to
make this play more fun by adding music, a few changes to
the text and transposed the action to a space age universe
of wild, cosmic characters. Think Star Trek meets Star Wars
featuring Buzz Lightyear. You’ll want to park your cosmic
space shuttles in the front row of the inter galactic Rancho
Buena Vista. Save the dates: Opening Thursday March 24,
Friday 25, Saturday 26 & Closing Sunday March 27. Show
starts promptly at 7pm. Will Call & the Moon Bar will open
at 6pm. All 4 shows will be Cocktail Theatre only. There
will be no dinners available at Rancho Buena Vista this
year. Tickets will be available early March at The
Smokehouse, our sole outlet, for the same price as past
years $20 or 240 pesos. For more information:

Warning, Break in: Was in Home Depot Cabo for 30 minutes and
returned to find my truck broke into, they took about $3000
worth of items between my friend and I. The break in was
done professionally and within minutes as captured on home
Depots security camera. In speaking with the head of
Security they have had lot's of problems with Break-ins, my
suggestion is to park somewhere that is exposed and I would
think this would hold true in most places in Cabo.

like to meet our American Catholic townsfolk. Brunch will be
served at 10AM, Thurs. At Palmas de Cortez. A 150 pesos
donation per person is requested and some tickets are still
available at Paydennis on Salsipuedes or at the Hotel with

VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) or Internet base phones.
Here is what they all have in common. First the quality of
the calls will always depend on the bandwidth. The
downstream (what you hear) is always adequate assuming that
no one is downloading data or sharing your bandwidth (your
internet connection). What the other person hears is your
upload speed and that is the limiting factor in Mexico. If
someone has difficulty hearing you, it is generally because
of your upload speed. This can be a problem on shared
networks or if some one on your network is uploading a photo
or email with attachments while your talking.
Assuming that you have good download and upload speeds there
are several choices:
Magic Jack is by far the cheapest for most users, around $50
for the device and $25 per year there after. With Magic
Jack you plug the device into the computer and plug a
regular phone into the Magic Jack. It loads the required
software (Mac or PC) and you are ready to make calls. The
down side - you have to have the computer running to make
and receive phone calls. They offer free voice mail if the
computer is off. Please note: you will have difficulty
burning CD's or DVD's with Magic Jack plugged into the
computer.
Skype is a good choice and is relatively low cost. You can
make calls from virtually any computer. The Skype software
and routing system can compensate for shared bandwidth and
shared networks. For an additional cost, Skype will provide
you with a dedicated phone number and voice mail. I use a
USB headset for best quality phone calls.
Ooma is the next lowest cost. Depending on the vendor, the
box will cost $200 to $250 (USD). I bought a refurbished
one for $100. After the initial cost, there are no annual
costs associated with Ooma. Free calls for life (probably
the life of Ooma which has been in business for over 6 years
and seems to be expanding). You plug Ooma into your
broadband router, plug a phone into Ooma and your are ready
to call. You have a number that people can use to call you
with voice mail. The computer does not have to be on.
Vonage is the next along with Packet 8. They both work the
same as Ooma. You plug their modem into your router. With
Vonage you get free calls to over 50 countries including
calls to Mexico. The call quality has improved greatly over
the years and is much improved with the new modem.
It is always best to go directly to each providers web site
to see exactly what they offer!!!!

a. Phone Scam
Someone from La Paz is phoning the 114 prefix number in La
Ventana / El Sargento. They speak good, but not native
language English. If you are not paying attention they will
get your first name from you and thank you for telling them
about property for sale in this area, or some other line. If
you ask who they are they will sound a little offended and
say something like "don't you remember when we talked at the
campgroud/restaurant/etc." If you fall for that, or are
unsure, as I was, you try to be polite and remember who you
met in the last few weeks. Then they say they will be flying
down from Los Angeles tomorrow to buy property and will stop
by to see you so you can show them property are get them in
touch with a local broker. The next day you get a call that
they are at the airport but have a problem. They did not
know you could only bring in $10,000 cash. They brought
$30,000 and customs has taken it all away. They must pay a
20,000 peso fine to get it back. If you can
help
them out they will pay you 500 dollars. They have answers
for every question you ask, but soon you realize things are
fishy. The caller let's you talk with an "airport lawyer" to
verify the story, but when you ask for his office phone
number it is a Mexico City number. Don't waste your time if
you get such a call. Wish your new friend the best of luck.

b. Update from Pezcifico, the Tackle Shop in La Ribera
The new Shimano Waxwing Jigs came in along with the
Butterfly Jigs. Plus 25 yard wrist spools of Fluorocarbon
from 15# through 250# test. In addition to the Silver
Prismatic Tape that works especially well with your Spoons &
Casting Jigs for Sierra, we now have Glow-In-The-Dark Tape
for early morning and bottom fishing. Both come in big 2"
wide, foot long strips. And even more Squid Skirts.
As some of you know, I married a local girl, Leticia. She
takes the Sierra Mackerel Fillets (skin on or off) and
removes the dark red meat along the lateral line then cuts
them into frying size chunks. In a large mixing bowl she
whisks a couple eggs, shakes in some pepper for coating the
fish in the egg mix. She sets that aside and breaks up some
saltine crackers into her blender then dumps the crumbs onto
a plate. Lifting the fish out of the egg, she coats the fish
in the crumbs, gives them a shake and drops them into hot
oil. And Cheryl, here is where the Gringo Gazette is one-up
on the B.P.E., the Gazette soaks up grease from a Fish Fry
very well.
Pezcifico is open every day. Hours are from Door Open to
Door Closed. Tel: 130-00-77 Thank you all for your support,
Jim.
