Be extremely careful when you use your credit card with any
merchant. With the advent of high resolution camera phones,
it is easy for a criminal to take a photo of your credit
card while waiting in line behind you. With that high res
photo, they can blow it up to read your credit card
numbers. I hand it to the merchant or sales person at the
last minute and hand it to the cashier "upside down."

The 18th Annual Festival de Artes at the beautiful
Hotel Palmas de Cortez in Los Barriles on Sunday, April 3,
2011 will not be complete without your participation! With
more than 1,000 spectators expected to attend this colorful
and fun-filled event, it will be the perfect time and place
to exhibit your original paintings and handcrafted items.
This year promises to be one of the biggest and best
festivals yet, with live entertainment and children's
programs throughout the day, delicious American and Mexican
food, snacks, baked goods and beverages!

. Our weekend was full of fun with racing, seeing old
friends and making a few new ones. We would like to extend

Adventures in the Sierra de la Laguna and Canyon San
Dionicio
Palapa Rancho Aserradero in the canyon of San Dionicio
now has palapas for rent
by the day, week or month. Located west of Santiago and in
the biosphere, these
exquisite and immaculately groomed camping palapas were
built by master palapero Jose Flores on his own ranch in the
Sierra de la Laguna. This is the perfect location from
which to explore the canyon, a working ranch, a continuously
flowing arroyo, and the beautiful Sierra de la Laguna.
The sites have outdoor grills, running water,
bathrooms, showers, tables and
chairs. Bring your sleeping bags or tents, campers or
motorhomes and spend time
exploring the area. This is a great setting for a retreat,
special celebraton or a reunion, or for base camp while
climbing to the Lago Seco. Guides are also available upon
request if you want to do more serious exploring. Call

Directions to the Palapa Rancho Aserradero: Drive into
Santiago. Turn right at
the gas station and drive north until you reach the "T",
just beyond the store.
Turn left and drive 14 kilometers, keeping to the right at
the fork in the
road. The entrance to Don Jose Flores' ranch is in the
biosphere directly
across the road from a small basketball court. (It's easier
than it sounds and
is a beautiful drive.)
Don Jose Flores will be available at the Arts Festival
in Los Barriles on 3
April. Look for him at the special booth featuring the work
of the ranch people
from the Sierra de la Laguna.
