Received 1-5-11
Our friend Dede Bacon had a bit
of a Kitemare today, Wednesday.
Thanks to Dante's heroic efforts
she is OK. She got her lines
tangled with the kite out of
control. Dante sailed out, cut
her loose and brought her to
shore. Char and many others came
to her side and sent her to the
hospital in Cabo to be on the
safe side. Her good buddy Betsy
will bring her home tonight.
Received 1-6-11 @ 9pm
I'm alive!! There are no
words strong enough to express
my gratitude to Dante for saving
my life. If it weren't for his
fortitude, technical and
emergency knowledge as well as
his amazing kiting skills, I
would not be here today. He
deserves to be recognized as Los
Barriles's finest!
Char at Amerimed did the right
thing when she saw a fractured
C5 vertebrae with floating bone
fragments in my xray. She
immobilized me and sent me to
Cabo for further examination as
this injury could be very
serious. Thankfully, Dr. Camila,
an Orthopedist from Cabo
analyzed the xray and discovered
I have been living with the
fracture for many years and that
I would be fine. I'm bruised and
sore everywhere and have a deep
wound to my pinky...minor in
comparison to how close I came
to drowning. I don't care how
many or how great your safety
releases claim to be...my
advice..DO NOT GO KITING WITHOUT
AN EASY TO REACH
KNIFE....EVER!!!!!
Thanks,
Dede Bacon
PS. There was an anonymous First
Aid woman who also deserves
recognition in addition to Alex,
one of Dante's instructors whose
beautiful smile gave me will.

DISCUSSION FM2, FM3 RENEWAL
a. The required paper work is
all the same: Bank statements,
light bill, renewal request
letter, etc., except for two new
forms. One of these forms is in
the computer which you have to
fill out on the INM Website,
then print it out and take it to
Immigration (YOU CANNOT PRINT
OUT THE FORM AND FILL IT OUT BY
HAND); the other is a paper form
obtained from the INM office,
and filled out by hand. (The
computer form is a good idea, as
it assigns you a number, with
which you can track your
application's progress thru the
Immigration process after
submiting the form to INM. When
INM has processed your
application, the tracking site
will tell you to come to the INM
office.) In addition to the
paperwork, you have to submit a
set of color passport fotos so
they can put your picture on the
new card. Pretty simple, huh?
Except 1) You still have to go
to the INM office to submit
these forms along with all the
rest of the paper work, pay at
the bank, and get a registration
receipt; 2) The form from which
the new card is made, and then
encapsulated, is not ready for
you to sign when you show up at
the INM office to pick it up.
You have to sign the book, wait
to be called to submit your
receipt; and are then told to
wait until you are called again
to sign the card form, and then
you wait some more while they
encapsulate the card (2+ hours
in my case); 3) Your new Visa
card is only good for one year,
so you'll be doing the S.O.S.
every year, including new fotos,
to get a new card; 4)
AND.........the new card won't
fit in the credit card pouches
of your billfold (at least not
in mine), (of note, the
encapsulated Mexican drivers
license fits quite handily in
these pouches).
As to what happens when you exit/enter the country with
the new card, I don't know;
haven't been there yet. I
suspect it will be swiped at the
entry/exit points so INM will
have a computer record of your
border crossings. If they swipe
it, so know when you are coming
and going, I don't know if
they're still going to require
that FMM paper form for Mexican
Visa holders when entering and
leaving the country; would seem
redundant to me. Hope this
helps.

1000 Mile Bicycle Ride to put a
Positive Spin on Baja
Baja Love RideSan Felipe, BC,
Mexico - January 5, 2011 - The
first annual Baja Love Ride will
be held February 2011. This
“ride for a cause” fundraising
event will entail a 1000 mile
bicycle ride from Rosarito to
Cabo San Lucas. The ride will
last 15 days. Riders and teams
can participate in the entire
1000 mile course or they can
join in two other shorter rides
as part of the Baja Love Ride.
There will be a five mile “Good
Start” ride, which represents
the good start a child needs in
life; which is perfect for
children and families to enjoy.
There will also be a single day
(one leg) community ride
complete with overnight camping
as an option. All proceeds from
each leg of the Baja Love Ride
will go to children’s charities
located in the communities along
the route.
Each participant and team is being encouraged to
involve friends, colleagues, and
family from around the globe to
either join in the ride or
sponsor riders. With so many
children in need in Baja, each
and every dollar raised will
make a real difference in the
lives of children who simply
have no control over their
situation. Baja charitable
groups that will be directly
impacted by the funds raised
include Club de Ninos Y Ninas
Rosarito, Casa de Fe in San
Felipe, Fundacion Ayuda Ninos La
Paz, Hogar del Ninos in Todos
Santos, along with others.
While the main goal of the Baja Love Ride is to raise
as much money for children’s
charities as possible,
organizers believe there are
added benefits if the ride is a
success. Recent negative news
reports have painted the Baja
area in an unfair light. The
organizers of the event hope the
Baja Love Ride will reinforce
what Baja residents already
know---the area is safe,
welcoming and a wonderful haven
that everyone should support and
enjoy. Tourism has declined and
local businesses have felt the
crunch due to this
mischaracterization. This has
filtered down to the children’s
charities as they have seen
fewer donations and struggle to
support the needs of the
children of Baja. The Baja Love
Ride organizers hope the ride
will change the negative
perception of the area and
believe it will also give Mexico
the chance to showcase the huge
investment in the Baja highway
system.
Ride founders, John and Rachel Pack, of Baja Good Life
Club have partnered with Bill
and Carol Spradlin of the
Mexican non-profit Casa de Fe in
hope the ride will achieve all
of its goals and become an
annual community event that
helps more and more children
each year while promoting the
Baja area as the safe and
pleasurable destination they
know it to be.
