LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP FAIR IN LOS
BARRILES
Feb.11th-14th. Los Barriles is
celebrating Valentines’ Day or “Dia de la Amistad” with a
Fair: “The Love and Friendship Fair” sponsored by the
Delegacion and the Narciso Mendoza Primary School. There
will be food, rides, sporting events, a dance, crowning of
the Queen, "Mil Corazones y un solo fin" walk/run, and an
afternoon Valentine's Day celebration. This is the first
ever! The theme is: "Your best friend is...your Heart," or
“Keeping our Hearts healthy through exercise.” So, most of
the events center around physical
activities. Here is a list
of events:
Friday:
5:00 pm: Inauguration of the “Love and Friendship
Fair” in the Cancha followed by
Men’s Volleyball,
Saturday:
8:00 am: “Mil Corazones y un Solo Fin”
Participants will walk/run from Buenos Aires
(alternative starting points are
Ochoa's Chicken, and Otra Vez) to the Cancha.
11:00 am: Kid’s soccer at the soccer field,
4:00 pm: Women’s Volleyball, and
10:00 pm: Dance at the Cancha.
Sunday:
10:00 am: Bicycle race at the soccer field,
11:00 am Baseball and/or Soccer for the
Secondary students, 5:00 pm Fitness
Marathon (step,
zumba, aerobics) and
6:00 pm: Crowning of the “Queen of the
Valentine’s Fair,” finally,
Monday (Valentines’ Day):
6:00 pm: an evening closing celebration.
(There are signs with the scheduled
events posted on the Primary School gates)
This event is exciting because it
raises health awareness. Register for the Walk/Run either
with the Primary School teachers, at the DIF office, or at
the Library. Cost is 20 pesos and includes a bottle of
water. Money earned will be used for supplies etc for the
school. …So, start stretching and get out your running shoes
for a different kind of Heart Celebration...

NEWS FROM TODOS SANTOS - Our
neighbors to the west
The town of
Todos Santos is just full of fun events, whether it be great
art openings, fine dining, or in this case, a great run for
people of all ages and abilities!!!
The ever popular and now THIRD
ANNUAL Romex sponsored Todos Santos 5 Km run/walk will be
held on Saturday, February 5th, with the starting
gun at 9:00 am in the Plaza Marquez de Leon in the center of
town. Participants can fill out their registration forms
from 11:00 – 1:00 on Feb 3rd or 4th in
front of Cafelix (just up the hill from Hotel California),
or in the plaza on the day of the race. Entry fee is 150
pesos with all proceeds going to assist the Palapa Society’s
Chino Project, which focuses on assisting children in the
community who have major medical needs. The 5k run will
wind on a course through the surprisingly hilly, but
extremely scenic town of Todos Santos, and people of all
ages and abilities are welcome to enjoy this fun event.
For families who want to get their kids started on the right
foot of exercise for a healthy lifestyle, there is also a 1K
walk run for only 10 peso entry fee.
The events are timed for those of you who want to
work on running your personal best, and ribbons and prizes
will be presented to the winners of each class. Actually,
this is an international event since runners come from all
parts of the world, many returning specifically to
participate in this event.

THUMBS UP!
Some friends and I celebrated a birthday with lunch at
Antojos last week. There were six of us, so I stopped by the
day before to warn them. When we got there, they had a
special table set up for us inside (it was chilly that day).
We ordered off the menu; chicken enchiladas, the salad w/
chicken and a creamy tortilla soup were all great. When I
asked for the check, they surprised us all with a birthday
cake made especially for us and a snappy rendition of Happy
Birthday on the boom box. For great service, delicious food,
and good prices, Antojos gets a thumbs up from this diner.
