Obituary for Richard Lyle Toussau
Richard Lyle Toussau, 75, passed from this earth on August 26, 2011
following complications from his battle with cancer.
He was born August 30, 1935 in Anaheim, Calif., and graduated
from Anaheim High School. In 1972, while still residing in Anaheim,
he bought acreage in Ivanhoe, California. Two years later he
retired from his Toussau Fertilizer business and relocated himself
and his children to the Ivanhoe ranch. Richard remained in and
around the Tulare County area until his death. He lived life to the
fullest, was an accomplished pilot, and enjoyed his retirement years
by spending time between his Ducor, Baja and Arroyo Grande homes.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Pauline
Toussau, and his eldest son, Mark Toussau. He is survived by his
son, Tim Toussau of Ducor, Calif.; daughter Aimee Ochoa of Tucson,
Ariz.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Don
Toussau and Mike Toussau; sister, Jan Graves; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
A memorial mass for Richard will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept.
6, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Visalia, Calif., with
reception immediately following at the Lamp Liter Inn. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations to your favorite charity.
Additional service to be held in Punta Pescadero, B.C.S. in the
fall, where Dick’s ashes will be laid to rest. Date to be
announced.

Someone has recently recommended a great cultural website (q.v.
"Courtesy of *The Baja Western Onion*, BPE #1153). So here's a
hearty recommendation for TED.com, which sponsors short lectures
from scientists and innovators on the cutting edge of a large
variety of different fields. The 15 to 20 minute illustrated talks,
though often addressed to fellow peers, are given in the English
understandable by non scientists. TED.com is a favorite
just-before-bed site for this ex-pat, recommended to me years ago by

Cabo Pulmo National Park Study - A new study led by researchers at
Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego (USA) has found
that the thriving undersea wildlife park at Cabo Pulmo has proven to
be the world’s most robust marine reserve in the world.

The no-fishing park was established in 1995
to restore the area's heavily overfished waters. Between 1999 and
2009, Cabo Pulmo saw a 460 percent increase in its total amount of
