ALMA General Meeting: Tuesday, June 14, 10:00am Verdugo's
Restaurant PUBLIC WELCOME
===============================
You can have your immigration photos taken for about 100
pesos in downtown La Paz on Revolucion between Degolado y 16th if
September. All they need to know is what document the photos are
for. Walmart, Home Depot, Soriana etc, etc. are usually the price
leaders, and I don't mean in a good way. The markets and street
vendors in el centro, including the hardware stores and the Isste
supermarket are very competitive and many times cheaper then the
"big box" stores. In addition to benefiting your pocketbook you
are keeping the money local and benefiting the local community while
enjoying the rich Mexican culture. I almost forgot to mention, with
the exception of Isste the helpers and cashiers try really hard to
help you. This week's tip, for a good chuckle and some amazing
colorful sights visit the variety store El Super on Degollado
between Revolucion and Serdan. Wendy y Bobby Ray weebray@gmail.com

OPEN
DISCUSSION ON INTERNET HACKING/PHISHING/BAD INTERNET BEHAVIOR!
a. I just want to add to the conversation about the hacking and
phishing. I got a message that looked like it was Yahoo telling that
I was being compromised and might want to change my password. I did
that and then walked away. Came back within an hour and had lost all
my contacts. I got in touch with Yahoo and they were able to let me
change the password again as I caught the problem while it was
happening. Lost all e-mail addresses. I still had my folders so sent
them to a new e-mail address. I canceled that account and then went
to all my other e-mail addresses and made a very complicated
password for them. That is the secret to stopping them from getting
into your account and not opening anything that comes to you,
unsolicited by you.
Another thing is do not let people send to your 'clean' account if
they are including you in the To or CC line with other addresses.
BCC is the only way to send to more than one person. When you are
included in the TO line or CC line, the people receive your address
and sometimes send to a bunch of other people in their address book
and there you are .......... out there to people you have no idea
who they are. (and they sometimes forward to other strangers and it
continues on and on).

ROAD REPORTS
a. My husband and I crossed at Tecate on June 2 on our way to LB.
Aside from the normal small patches of road repair, there were a few
items worth noting. These notes are all written from a southbound
perspective, so you’ll have to reverse them for a northbound trip:
· On Mex 3, starting in El Testerazo, there is major
construction until KM 60. It is very passable, UNLESS you are
towing something wide. The road is dirt and not quite 2 lanes wide,
more like 1-3/4. It looks like this project will be there for quite
a while.
· On Mex 1, south of Ensenada and just past the newly
constructed immigration/military checkpoint, there is a dirt road
detour about ˝-mile long. The trucks had to take it very slow, so
we all spent some extra time getting through there.
· On Mex 1, as you climb out of Loreto up over the Gigantes,
there is a long section of dirt single track on that steep, twisty
section of road. They are holding up one direction of traffic for
10-15 minutes at a time and you end up bunched up behind big-rigs
and buses through the whole section with no opportunity to pass.
· On Mex 1,halfway between Constitution and La Paz there is
a gravel detour near Las Pocitas from KM 105-98.
Safe travels, Julie bajamillertime@comcast.net

a. We have been preparing US expatriate tax returns for Gringos in
Mexico for the last 20 years. We have helped hundreds of clients
catch up with their US tax filing requirements when they have
fallen behind. We understand Mexican tax law and can help integrate
your US taxes with your Mexican taxes to give you the ultimate tax
savings.
We are currently in Cabo San Lucas and will
be there for another month helping clients. All services are also
provided by internet, fax, phone and email. Download our tax
questionnaire at
www.TaxMeLess.com.
Your 2010 return is due 6/15/11, but can
be extended until 10/15/11 by filing form 4868 prior to that date.
We recommend you read the 2011 IRS
Voluntary Offshore Disclosure Program (the link is on our website)
if you have foreign corporations, fideicomisos, foreign bank
accounts, etc. that you have not filed the appropriate forms for.
This program expires 8/3/11 and can reduce or eliminate your
penalties.
The IRS now has collection agents assigned
to collect from Americans living in Mexico. They have hired 2200 new
agents to work on collecting from Americans living abroad.
Therefore, the "good old days" are disappearing fast for Americans
living in Mexico who thought you could just forget about your US Tax
filing requirement. They are now also tracking your trips in and out
of the US and have connected your passport to your social security
number.
Our return preparation rates are reasonable
and we offer the complete privacy of attorney - client privilege. We
look forward to helping you. Don D. Nelson, Attorney, CPA. Email me
