TROPICAL STORM ADRIAN DISCUSSION NUMBER 5
NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
EP012011
800 AM PDT WED JUN 08 2011
SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT ADRIAN CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN...WITH
A WELL-DEFINED LARGE CURVED BAND WRAPPING MORE THAN THREE-QUARTERS
OF THE WAY AROUND THE CENTER. SATELLITE INTENSITY ESTIMATES WERE 55
KT FROM BOTH TAFB AND SAB AT 1200 UTC...BUT SINCE THAT TIME THE
CONVECTIVE BAND HAS GAINED CURVATURE AND CLOUD TOPS HAVE COOLED NEAR
THE CENTER. THEREFORE...THE INITIAL INTENSITY IS SET AT 60 KT.
A 1059 UTC SSMI PASS SHOWED WHAT MIGHT BE THE BEGINNING OF A BANDED
EYE FEATURE. IN ADDITION...THIS PASS AND RECENT VISIBLE IMAGES
SUGGEST THAT THE CENTER HAS JOGGED NORTHWARD OVER THE LAST SEVERAL
HOURS...AND THE LATEST 12-HOUR INITIAL MOTION ESTIMATE IS 340/5.
ALTHOUGH THE STORM HAS CHANGED ITS HEADING OVER THE PAST 6 HOURS OR
SO...THE OVERALL TRACK FORECAST PHILOSOPHY IS UNCHANGED. A
GENERAL
SLOW NORTHWESTWARD OR NORTH-NORTHWESTWARD MOTION IS FORECAST FOR
THE NEXT 12 TO 24 HOURS. BEYOND THAT TIME...A TURN TO THE
WEST-NORTHWEST WITH A SLIGHT INCREASE IN FORWARD SPEED IS
ANTICIPATED AS A MID-LEVEL RIDGE STRENGTHENS TO THE NORTH OF THE
TROPICAL CYCLONE. THE OFFICIAL FORECAST HAS BEEN ADJUSTED TO
THE
RIGHT...OR NORTH...MAINLY DUE TO THE INITIAL MOTION AND POSITION.
THIS PUTS THE OFFICIAL FORECAST CLOSER TO...BUT STILL TO THE LEFT
OF...THE MULTI-MODEL CONSENSUS.
ADDITIONAL INTENSIFICATION APPEARS VERY LIKELY AS ADRIAN STILL LIES
OVER ABOUT 30C WATERS AND IN A VERY LOW WIND SHEAR ENVIRONMENT.
IN
FACT...THE SHIPS RAPID INTENSIFICATION INDEX SHOWS ABOUT A 70
PERCENT CHANCE OF RAPID INTENSIFICATION IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
GIVEN
THE EXPECTED CONTINUED FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR STRENGTHENING...
THE OFFICIAL FORECAST HAS ONCE AGAIN BEEN NUDGED UPWARD AND SHOWS
ADRIAN INTENSIFYING RAPIDLY FOR THE FIRST 24 HOURS AND THEN MORE
SLOWLY THROUGH 48 HOURS. AFTER 72 HOURS...ADRIAN WILL BE
MOVING
OVER INCREASINGLY COOLER WATER AND INTO A MORE STABLE ATMOSPHERE
WHICH SHOULD INDUCE WEAKENING.
DUE TO THE NORTHWARD ADJUSTMENT IN THE TRACK FORECAST...A TROPICAL
STORM WATCH HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR A PORTION OF THE MEXICAN COAST.
(More info go to
www.eebmike.com or your
favorite tropical website)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thursday the camera will be on the Delegacion to take the driver's
license pictures.
If you know someone who is wanting to get the Mexican driver license
just let them know,
Regards, Josefina
a. USA cell phone pay as you go: I just purchased an AT&T "go
phone" pay as you go cell phone, with a US plan of $2.00 a day for
unlimited calls. and was able to call mexico with it for $0.26 cents
a minute while in the USA..
Now I tested it today in Mexico (roaming) and was able to call here
in Mexico for $0.26 cents a minute. and received a call for $0.26
cents a minute. Looked at the online bill and they did not charge me
the $2.00 for the daily use just the above per minute fee.
So this is a very good deal for those of us who do not live on our
cell phones and do go up to the USA for trips.
I bought the this phone for $20.00 and it had $30.00 of credit. and
only pay the $2.00 a day for unlimited USA calls when I actually use
the phone. it is active for 3 months and then i have to add credit.
If I add $100.00 of credit it is active for 1 year. a copy of this
is posted on the site
b. Road report and free wireless on La Paz malicon, After going
both ways recently, I have found that for southern Baja you want to
travel on Sunday as they are doing construction and the work south
of Loreto in the mountains has no delays because they have that day
off. when I went by on a weekday it was several delays up to 30
minutes each. And same with driving up north heading south on a
Saturday there were no construction delays as no one was working on
Saturday. Also there is significantly less truck traffic on
Sunday, Saturday seemed about the same. I crossed southbound at
Otay Mesa because I had items to declare, and also the traffic from
there south was minimal vs a weekday. I also did a photo section
on where including where to park and how to declare items at Otay
Mesa to make it simple, this took me 10-15 minutes. And if need
be you can walk back and do visa work. very secure parking there.
I have also updated my site with where specifically aduana is in
TJ (San Ysidoro) to get or have a temproary car sticker removed, it
is a bit tricky so I have the printable details at
www.la-ventana.info under travel by land also. Also listed on
that website under travel:: by land; there is a new service that can
text you current border crossing updates and in the future they
claim they will have live video feeds of the major crossing
locations. And I also posted in the current events a link to a
newspaper article where they claim some public areas of LaPaz will
have free wireless internet, the malicon and some parks maybe years
end..
The first stages of Emergency Medical Response are underway! Made
clear by his horrific accident, it was the blinding light of Jeff
Niemi’s kite sailing incident that alerted the professionals at East
Cape Health Center that our local bomberos, paramedics and ambulance
driver’s needed improved skills and quality equipment, FAST, or
lives were at risk. Char Wenger from East Cape Health Center teamed
up with Michael Carr, the founder of ‘International Emergency
Services Fund’ from Chico, California and knew that uniquely
qualified training help was at hand. Carr’s mission is to bring
first responder education and equipment to regions of the world that
are in need and at risk. Mike’s resume of success in Mexico is
outstanding; so are his skilled volunteer firefighters who bring
their experiences to benefit under served and under skilled local
firefighters and first responders. With the help of retired local
Firefighters Jim Hall and Dave Hernandez, Mike and crew mixed Baja
fun with a tournament before getting to the business of saving
lives. After the Pig Roast they threw brains and brawn into a
focused, two-day training on the intricacies of vehicle extrication.
“We knew the local Paramedics and Bomberos were undertrained and
lacked equipment. In the past they were gifted a ‘Jaws of Life
Tool’, but were never trained to use it. It's functional, yet “old
school” and was in need of repair and maintenance – we used the EC
Health Center Pig Roast funds to get the equipment up to speed.
During the training, these men soaked in the lifesaving instructions
being providing. Make no mistake - there’s much more training needed
and equipment to provide. I believe our mission is perfectly aligned
with this project and we’re committed to this community.” On behalf
of bringing life saving training and equipment to the East Cape,
stay tuned! There’s much more good news and good work to come from
the combined efforts of the East Cape Health Center and Mike Carr's
IESF…
