Assaults at ATM Machines Courtesy La Paz Gringos - Just a note of
warning: There is a band of thieves operating in La Paz that are
assaulting women at ATM machines. A young woman I work with was
assaulted at knife point Wednesday. When she reported it to the
police, they said it was the fourth report this week. A well dressed
man approached and used the ATM next to her. When she left, he left
behind her and said, excuse me you dropped something. When she
looked down and around, he pushed her up against the building,
pointed the knife at her, took her wallet etc. He said he would come
to her house (he had her ID in the wallet) and find her if she
called the police. This event took place at the ATM at SANTANDER in
front of Soriana at about 10:00am. The thieves are apparently
targeting women so everyone, use caution. -

Keep'n It Reel 5th Annual Fish'n Chips Tournament at Hotel Palmas De
Cortez. If you would like to participate in this years tournament
you can register on Thursday, June 23rd at the Pool bar between
9am-4pm. $350 entry fee gets you in the fishing tournament on June
24th and the Poker Tournament on Saturday June 25th. There will be
a bikini contest open to all held on Friday night with a grand prize
of $500.00. You can register for the bikini contest on June 23rd at

La Paz/BCS towns phone books are available in La Paz at Seccion
Amarillo. To find them, go down Nicholas Bravo street (by Chedraui
store) to the Telmex office. Turn left there to Allende, about 2
blocks over, and another left gets you to the phone books. They
happily gave me several and also have on hand the phone books of the
principal Mexican cities for reference use there in the office.
Telmex sent me to them and Telmex doesn't keep the directories on
hand.
The Harper Collins hardback unabridged spanish-english dictionaries
are really good to have. I find them a necessity if you are serious
about learning spanish. I've not seen them for sale here but buy
them in the USA from Barnes and Noble. Cost is about 30 bucks, very
well spent. Easy to read, lots of words, well made. Randy E

I must admit that I was surprised as to how nice it was. I was
able to find many American products. There are still some that are
not available. The store is very contemporary and well laid out. I
talked with the person in Customer Relations who speaks very good
English and was most helpful. She said that if there was anything
else that the foreign community wanted them to stock, just let them
