The Curso de Verano is sponsored by our Delegation, the Dif office and The Asociacion de Artes.  This three week program will run from July 11, 2011, through July 30, 2011.  There are 110 children enrolled in this program that runs from 8am till 1:30pm Monday through Friday all three weeks.  We are looking for some people who are willing to give us a couple of hours or more if you like during this program.   We have swimming, dancing, many different art programs of your choice, jewelry making and last but not least English classes.  Remember you do not need to speak Spanish to teach English.  There are several different sports classes also that are covered at this point in time by local instructors.   This program is very well organized by Francie and our local Delegation.   We would like to help with additional volunteers to make this program a continued success for our community.  Please contact me directly Kathy at kaojaa@gmail.com and we will accommodate the time you have available.  Thanks so very much!

It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience for me to watch Caleb's grow after I started it .... years ago.  I have always thought that change was good and have always looked at options in order to serve the wonderful customers I have served for so many years and also to bring in new ones.  Some of the options I am currently considering would be catering, adding a lighter menu, or even selling.  If you are an interested buyer or know of some one that would like an excellent established restaurant, please contact me at calebscafe@gmail.com

QUESTIONS

a.  Wanted, I need to borrow a Hi 8 STEREO camcorder. I have a mono camcorder but I need to retrieve a stereo recording. If someone has one put away in their closet in the states and can bring it down with them in the fall I would be very thankful. My tape is potential product of an old concert. Thanks... Ken E,  kene3@mac.com

b.  I've had an FM 3 for about four years now and find it far more trouble than it is worth, having to renew it every year. Generally, I'm not planning a trip anywhere near the expiration date, and it takes them so long to process I have to leave before it's ready. What a hassle! Does anyone know how I can go back to just being a "tourist" and drop my FM3?Also,  I've heard mixed reports on whether I need to have one to own property in Baja, which I do. Last I heard, I don't have to have an FM3 to own property. If anyone can help me out with these questions I would sure appreciate it. Bill

c.  Wanted, wine or booze cartons with the accordion paper divider inside. Cheryl bajaduck@bajaduck.com

d.  Does anyone out there know of anyone that sells little piglets or goats for a BBQ.???
Our # 141-0076  ask for Steven or  Diana.. We live next to Spa Buena Vista. Thanks..

e. Has anybody come up with a way to get rid of these darn, what I call titsey, ants. You know, they're very small and they are erratic in movement. I can't find they're home and they are everywhere in the kitchen. Hormiga's revenge!!!  crazyconron@aol.com    (Ron, me too!  so if you get a good answer, be sure and share on the BPE.  Cheryl)

ANSWERS TO QUESTION

a.  From time to time, we old folks here in paradise find the need for a wheel chair.  For several years I have enjoyed being a "Craphound" at the second hand stores aka "Secundos" in LaPaz and for a number of years, I have seen wheelchairs there.  One of them is called Secunda Forjadores.  There are several there on the main highway across from the University and about 2 miles South of Soriana.  The Proprietaria is Maria Elena Lucero Garcia.  Her phone number is 612 128 0705

PHOTO OF THE DAY SENT IN  BY MAUREEN STROUD

I remember this cactus well so I sent Dennis a note and here are his comments.

My youngest son, Alex, started this with a couple of plates he found and from then on they came in from all over, even had Yukon Territories and Hawaii.
After we lost the Cardon cactus Alex took them to his ranch in Las Animas close to San Jose. As you know this cactus was where Plaza Fayla now is and was lost in a hurricane. In the first wind surfing magazines  used this photo with the caption, " When you see this cactus you have reached the wind surfers paradise".  Dennis

COMPUTER SECURITY BY DAVE LOVE
Here's my two cent's worth on email security for Windows users.
For starters:  Never use Internet Explorer (IE) for your browser:  instead use Firefox, Opera, Safari or any other browser (but do not delete IE).  Also, change your Administrator name***.  Use Avast! for one of your on-line firewalls. Do not use Norton/Symantic utilities (popular, but way memory hungry and below average on detection).
1.  Do not use 'Hotmail'; 'Yahoo! Mail'; 'Win Live Hotmail'; or 'AOL Mail;' -- the notoriously insecure email services most targeted by criminals and nine year olds.
2.  Do use Gmail or a private-for-pay email service --- but not your corporate email service if it is a major player.
3.  Change email passwords* on a schedule:  frequently for business, banking; every four months for social; bi-annually for junk.  Different passwords for each address, por favor!
4. Have at least a minimum of two separate email addresses;
three is better; four is best:  a.Your Social address that you give to friends.  b.The Business/banking addresses.  c.The Junker which is traded for access to websites.  d.The Draft box, where the address and password is mutually shared:  Drafts are typed and read by (no Sends) your heirs or lawyers.  Remember:  if your bank asks for info, that is a Blinking Red Alert for a phish site:  call them back from a biz card or white page look-up, not a number given in the email. Report phish sites to http://www.us-cert.gov/nav/report_phishing.html
5. Set filters on junk or give-a-way addresses to automatically send on to your friendly day to day address email, with key words in the subject line, i.e., "dog sitting," "Pen reel," meaning, do not publish your social address on public web sites, use your junk mail address with filters instead.
6.  Be aware.  Look for the unusual.  Never click on links in an email from an unknown sender.  Think STDs, computer style.  When registering for an online service, your email (junk) address is often requested as a username.  When asked for a password, don't inadvertently give the password to your email address; make up a <new> password for the service.  On your part, give a heads up to your friends in the subj. line:  "link inside to LATimes article on Venice street fashion"
7.  Social sites, FaceBook, Linkedin, etc., are fertile fields mined by criminals searching for email addresses, birthdays, mother's maiden name, etc.  Avoid them.
8.  Erase your cookies and history, especially after banking, from FireFox and other non-IE browsers.  This can be easily set on automatic in the Menu Bar> tools> options> security> section.  Include Temp(orary)  and Recent files for deletion.
9.  Don't keep a record of your passwords on your hard disk**.
Good news/bad news if you get raided:  The good news is that if you are lucky, your email will merely become a vendor of sex aids or a referral to sex sites; no biggy.  Or lose a few hundred or thousand dollars from your savings account. More
unfortunately, if you should show up on a list of the Patriot Act: well, sorry,  no more convenient  flying between here and the States; kids and grand children may be red-flagged, too.  And no; can't remove or delete names from those computers, at least so far.
*---Easy password recipes (12+ characters):   My first pass word, back in the age of innocence, was "dgtm!", from  'Dave, Go To Mexico!', a mantra I had been repeating to myself mentally for years.  Longer passwords can be built using similarly remembered phrases, the older the better, extracting a letter from each word, and adding numbers connected to those events.  For example, 'Hyocdstd365dia!', from 'Harold, you old coot don't slam the door 365, durn it all!'  Phrases are easier to remember than their acronyms, and are easily typed.  They can be crafted from snippets from plays or movies: "Fmdidgad@$#%&," from Clark Gable's famous delivery in GWTW (don't use this one; everyone knows it), or old songs. Notice that superscripts are allowable, which raise the security bar.
**---Especially, one's banking codes, pws and pins must not be listed in any email address books, or in the computer.  List them down on a piece of paper, unlabeled, and hide it in your house, not online (to date, major banks, the FBI, CIA, Pentagon and various hospitals have been hacked, as well as computer security services and credit trackers).  A copy of the most important goes into your safe deposit box.
***---Changing Administrator account name; the basic computer security step:  > Start> run> type "control [space] userpasswords2"> OK> Users tab> Administrator under User Name> Properties button> type your new user name in the User name box [Do not type into or change the Full Name box (important)!]> OK> OK.  Note that the Administrator account name is by default named 'administrator' by WindowsXP, hence making easy access for  hackers.  The Administrator account is only visible later in Safe Mode.  Keep a record of this new Administrator account name together with your passwords; don't lose it.  For WinVista or 7, the initial 'run' may vary.
Hope this helps,   ___ Dave Love m800md@gmail.com,
"security" in the subject line.
