(Sorry, I had problems getting this issue out but lets hope
people show up in the morning, Cheryl)
On behalf of the faculty, administration and parent body of Cycete,
Santiago, (our high school) we are asking the East Cape Community
for contributions( see below) towards the construction of “THE
STAGE” for graduation ceremonies (July 2nd will be the first),
theatrical and musical productions, student assemblies, and outside
speaker presentations. Each student has contributed 1 cement block
or 10 pesos towards the student body contribution. This request fell
into my lap today while at Cycete, Santiago, with my son, a junior
(class of 2012) after conversing with Professora Raquel( English
teacher), one of the spear headers, (or because she speaks English
and so do I)!!!!!
With most of the North American community north for summer, and the
lateness of this announcement, whoever is able and willing, we would
love donations of pesos, dollars, and cement, will be greatly
appreciated.
THE TW0 WAYS TO DONATE!
1. Road Runner Cafe Saturday June 25th.
Cheryl (BPE)has offered to join us Saturday morning, June 25th,
along with Professora Raquel, my son Franck and other students and
me, (BetsyinBaja), to meet, greet, and accept donations at the
Roadrunner Cafe, from 8:30 to 11:30. We will have a model concept
of the “Cycete Stage” to view for anyone interested in seeing a
visual, construction in progress as I write.
2. Stop by Armando Molina’s or Tony
Tamayo’s hardware stores, purchase a bag or bags of cement in the
name of Cycete, Santiago, The bags will be held for the school to
pickup.
Donations for example 1 bag of cement is $125 - $145
pesos per bag.
Presently Cycete, Santiago has projected “The Stage” in
3 phases due to funding. We will keep you informed of the progress
as our goals are reached.
Being a MOM and living in the East Cape Community full
time for 5+ years with a son who entered local Mexican school in Los
Barriles, grade 7, and will graduate a year from now, I am reminded
with events like this, that we are in Mexico, life is different
here, expectations, planning, procedures, “manana” is not as most
of us know. It is the way here, families, kids, students, church,
life etc. adjectives of life... happy, stressless, proud, confident.
We, North Americans, have chosen the East Cape Community to become
our home for a reason, and love it. Mine was to offer my son the
opportunity to see the world in other eyes( his own), we are living
this view NOW!
Thanks to All of YOU who consider making a small (or big)
contribution to “THE STAGE” at Cycete, Santiago. Betsy Rudigoz

I want to let everyone know about the dangers of a
plant that is common in many yards...based on my first hand
experience. Pencil Euphorbia, (Euphorbia tirucallii), known locally
as Dados de Ninos, is highly toxic.
E. tirucallii - the well known Pencil
Euphorbia - A most dangerous Euphorbia and one of the most readily
available plants, even in supermarkets. Latex from this plant has
been the cause of death, blindness and severe illness. The latex
produces excruciating pain and severe inflammation if it gets into a
cut on the skin or on to the eyeball. It produces a more intense
irritation of the eyeball than of the skin which may result in
ulcerations on the eyeball.
I gingerly handled this plant, never even touching the
sap (latex), and later touched my face and rubbed my eye. Even with
the limited contact with the plant, I had a terrible reaction. The
burning in my eye was so excruciating I thought I might lose my
eyesight. My husband rushed me to the Amerimed Clinic in Los
Barriles where they flushed my eye until they could identify the
plant. With the help of Lynn Mirassou and Betsy O'Leary enough
information was gathered so that Dr Rendon could contact an
ophthalmologist in La Paz for the appropriate treatment. I am very
grateful for this team effort. Thankfully the treatment was
successful and I am recovering.
I had no idea that this plant is so toxic. If you have
this plant in your garden, please handle it carefully, avoid the
milky sap, wash your hands after contact, and make certain that
children do not touch it. Many people place this plant in front of
their home on the street. Now I know why the cows won't eat it.

ANTS!!!
a. I have had great success using Gene Grillo who sprays with an
organic non-toxic spray. He sprayed all around my house in April and
I have not had any ants in the house since then, including those
fast runners. The cost of my job was $60. He also has an organic
termite spray that has a life of 10-40 years depending on
conditions.

b. I heard you can mix Karo syrup with boric acid, put it into
bottle caps on the counter. Also, sprinkle cinnamon. Cheryl
c. To get rid of those teeny ants I use baby
powder and push it in edges of the floor or counter and it works
great. Chili powder can work too but it can also stain. Sharon

Immigration changes.
There was a new law signed into effect this May, 2011 that effect
all of us. For the good. You can become a permanent resident without
the need to renew ever again after four years as a resident. With
the right to work and come and go as often as you like. Here is a
link to the info.

Picture 042-1 -This male iguana
lives in our neighbors palapa roof with a female. We can see
them from time to time from our living room window. On this
beautiful afternoon we looked out the window to find the iguana
had captured a bird and was attempting to swallow it with much
difficulty. Buena Vista, Summer 2010, picture by the Kline &
