JEFF UPDATE:

a.  5/6/11@10am:  Jeff was in surgery for approx 5 hours yesterday and came through like a trooper. His son Ryan arrived last night from Guadalajara. Jeff was so happy to see him. Jeff is amazing and recovering so ahead of schedule. Today he will be so much more comfortable. Thanks again everyone. Natalie

b.  5/6/11@ 9:15am:  Good morning K. Please post for me:
Jeff is doing very well. Surgery was a great success and he's remarkable really!  A lesser guy might not be doing this great. Everyone who has called I am sorry if I couldn't talk to all of you but your prayers and blood have made all the difference. The personnel at the hospital are so kind and compassionate. I am so surprised at the caliber of doctors and nurses. Thanks to all! Natalie Prince

c.  Also if you would like to get updates on Facebook send me a friend request Kimberly Glick Ford

d.  5/5/11 @  2:30PM   I received this update from Jeff's sister Natalie.
Thank you everyone for the tireless efforts and determined resolve in the turn out for blood donations. Jeff would not be having surgery today if it were not for the friends who have shown so much love and support.
I am working with his insurance to get him air-vac'ed to Scripps as soon as he is stable. He could not be moved until the open fractures to the hip and elbow were reduced and fixed. This should give him the stability to be moved. He was taken into surgery minutes ago.
I am in touch with Adrian Gonzales who operates ICU transport and low altitude air transportation but first the insurance red tape has to be dealt with.
Jeff's daughter arrived yesterday and son arrives this afternoon. We have all been able to stay at Alexa's mom and stepdad's house which is a blessing.
Thanks again for the support which has been extraordinary, especially Charlene Winger, Kimberly, Kim Meehan and Cesar. Don't know what I would have done without you. Love to all, Jeff's sister Natalie Prince

e.  The blood banks have all the blood that they need for now, however they may need more so please stay close and check for updates.

f.  Medical note from Char
Thanks to the outpouring of blood donors, Jeff Niemi will be able to proceed with the first of several necessary surgeries.  Dr. Rocha his general surgeon and  Dr. Escamilla his orthopedic will proceed with phase one to get Jeff  ready for anticipated medical evacuation. Jeff is challenged with a long road to recovery with Physical Therapy.
I spoke with him yesterday and he is weak and as usual very optimistic.
Glitches in the blood banks will be addressed with the appropriate sources, thanks for the feedback to make this system more user friendly.

This brings to light my plea for our continued need to improve our Emergency Medical Response System with good equipment and training for the paramedics in our community. East Cape Health Center is planning a fundraiser on 20 May at East Cape RV Resort to marry up with EISF, our new sister city organization. Registration and tickets for their  fishing tournament on 19-21 May can be purchased at the Plaza Pueblo Roadrunnner Cafe on Friday or any day at East Cape Community Dental Clinic.  Dozens of Paramedics and Firefighters are coming with equipment and training materials to work with our local guys in Buena Vista and Las Cuevas.
Your support is always greatly appreciated and my continued dedication to East Cape Community is steadfast to provide the best training and response to emergencies and superior Medical/ Dental services to our community.

RECYCLING NEWS
Before everyone heads north, please be sure to thank Lynn Mirassou and Theresa Comber for the wonderful service they provide so every month we can recycle two HUGE trailers full of mostly plastic bottles, paper, glass and cans. And if you recycle, thank you very much.  If you don't recycle, please consider giving it a try. I volunteer, with group of others, who sort the bags of recyclables every month. This means we open every bag to make certain that the drop-offs are separated into plastic, glass, paper and cans, all the lids are removed from bottles and that the plastic and cans are crushed. Think about it...this is a lot like digging through garbage cans. So, as a huge favor to those of us who volunteer, please deliver your recyclables, SEPARATED, CRUSHED, LIDS REMOVED...and for extra credit, please WASH OUT YOUR RECYCLABLE CONTAINERS. The volunteers will love you. Remember, in order to continue the recycle program, enough funds must be collected each month to pay the cost for hauling to UVERDE. Please make a $50 peso contribution (which helps pay for the driver and his truck) when you drop off your recyclables, so we can continue to have this service in Los Barriles. Thanks.

a.  Thank you Awesome Sport Fishing!!
We did our 4th bi-annual boat ride with Awesome Sport Fishing and as always it was Awesome!!!   We got to fish (caught a 29lb Dorado!!) and 3 other fish, went to Cerralvo Island and shell hunted (they have great shells and other treasures there), snorkeled and just had a great day!!  Watching the crew on the 'hunt' for a fish was so interesting and amazing.   We went for the first time on 'regular' Awesome (not the bigger boat the Too Awesome), and found that the way it is configured worked better for our group of 10.  Theresa and the gang are great to work with and will let you tailor a trip to what  you want to do - ie, snorkel, fish, dolphin watch, hang with the mantaray, sight see or all of the above.    You don't have to be a hard core fisherman to enjoy being on one of these trips.  We just wish we had time to do the swimming with the mantaray!!  It was an all day trip and such great value!!  Heck, you get breakfast too!!
Our suggestion is to put this on your list of must do trips when you are down here.  I wish I had time for another trip before I leave!!      Jon & Chris Courtright
