Jeff Update Received 5/11/11 @ 6pm Sent by daughter Alexa.
Sending a quick update from Jeff Niemi. He is awake and
coherent in ICU at University Medical Center still. He
wants everyone to know how thankful he is for the blood
donations and support. Unfortunately the orthopedic team
here at UMC found a fracture in his foot and a need for
revision on his elbow as it is not stable inside. Jeff is
in extreme pain and discomfort. It is really hard to see
him go through this but we are staying around him at all
hours of the day trying to keep his spirits high. We
appreciate everyone's help down in Baja and are accepting
donations through PayPal at his son's email address: ryanniemi@yahoo.com
or daughter's: lex.niemi@gmail.com.

The East Cape Guild invites you to the annual
Scholarship Award Ceremony this Saturday, May 14, at 6:00 at
La Cancha in Los Barriles. This is the culmination of the
last year of fund raising to provide 137 high achieving
local students their award certificates. Come to see these
students and their proud parents as the students accept
their certificates. There will also be entertainment by
some of the student dancers, singers and performers.
Note from Cheryl: This is an amazing evening watching these
students receive their awards. I urge everyone to attend so
you can see exactly where your fundraising money goes. It's
good for the heart.

PIG ROAST FUNDRAISER FOR EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT!
East Cape Health Center is dedicated to improving the
Emergency Services in the East Cape area. We have teamed
with International Emergency Services Fund. IESF is holding
a fishing tournament on May 19th, 20th and 21st. IESF will
be training the bomberos (firefighters) in Buena Vista on
auto extrication on the 21st and 22nd. They have donated a
rescue squad and an extrication tool that will be delivered
in the next month. This will be the only rescue squad
between San Jose Del Cabo and La Paz. In the future, IESF
and East Cape Health Center will be holding training classes
in emergency fire response and emergency medical care for
the local bomberos and Emergency Medical personnel. IESF and
East Cape Health Center will also be donating items in the
future to improve the emergency equipment in our community.
Join us at our “Pig Roast” on May 20th at East Cape RV
Resort behind Otra Vez to help “save a life”. The cost is
$15/person. Cocktails at 6pm and Dinner at 7pm. All proceeds
will be used to buy Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
to be placed in the East Cape community. AEDs are simple to
use and will save a life.
Tickets available at East Cape Dental Clinic or
Charlene Wenger.
Will also be selling tickets at the Roadrunner Café on May
13th between 9am and 2pm.

8th ANNUAL EL CARDONAL SPORT FISHING TOURNAMENT MAY 27-28,
2011
Fundraiser for the Benito Juarez Primary School
Rules
1. Offshore tournament will be for tuna, dorado and
marlin (adults only). Shore fishing
tournament will be for any species on the El Cardonal beach
and will have 3 age categories: children, youth, and
adults.
2. Offshore tournament is open to any type of boat.
3. Minimum weights: tuna 30 pounds, dorado 25 pounds,
marlin 150 pounds.
4. Registration costs will be $1,000 pesos per boat,
maximum 4 people. Shore fishing: $20 pesos for children,
$50 pesos for youth, $80 pesos for adults.
5. Requirements to register: current fishing license
for all offshore anglers and registration payment.
6. Registration will be May 27 from 2:00-7:00 pm at the
El Cardonal cancha.
7. There will be a mandatory anglers’ meeting at 5:00,
Friday, May 27th.
8. There will be one day of fishing: Saturday, May 28.
ALL participants must leave from the El Cardonal beach.
9. Offshore shotgun start will be at 7:00am, lines out
of the water at 3:00 pm, scale will close at 4:00 pm. Shore
fishing is from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
10. Prizes will be awarded starting at 5:00 pm at the
cancha.
11. Offshore prize money:
20% of the total registration money will be donated to the
school. The remaining 80% will be awarded as prizes as
follows:
50% will go to the first place marlin
30% will go to the first place dorado
20% will go to the first place tuna.
Shore fishing prize money:
Children 1st place: 100% of total registration money
collected for this category. Youth 1st place: 100% of
total registration money collected for this category. Adult
1st place:100% of total registration money collected. Only
one prize for each age category.
