a. Information for Boaters
We were boarded on Sunday by the Mexican navy
. They were very polite and helpful, and this is what we
learned... They check for fishing licenses, you must carry them
as well as the original of your vessel license from your home
Province / State. They also want to see your original
immigration document and a Temporary Import Permit for the
vessel if it is OVER 4 Meters
The Temporary Import Permit may be obtained
at Pichilingue, Port Authority ( Banjercito ) Take originals and
copies of Passport, Immigration document, Vessel Permit, Trailer
Registration and Outboard motor registration or Bill of Sale.
The cost is $ 50.00 USD for 10 years. Thank you to Yolanda at

b. Yesterday Dan and I went into La Paz for
groceries. On the way back just past the new Casino are a series
of white lines and bumps to slow you down before an
intersection. We looked for a stop sign that usually follows
bumps like that - none existed. We stopped at the light one
block after the previous intersection. Dan looked back and saw a
motorcycle cop following us, not unusual in La Paz. But then he
pulled up alongside us and waved us over. He said we failed to
stop at the stop sign back there where the bumps were. We said
no, we didn't see any stop sign and wanted to go back and look.
The cop then asked us to follow him and pull over further than
what seemed necessary - he took us further down the road so any
possibility of looking at the "stop sign" would be difficult.
Both of us stated there was no stop sign by the bumps and we
wanted to walk back and look (it was about 91 degrees and
humid). We were going back and forth with this guy and finally
he said OK just go and be careful next time. Today, we went back
into La Paz and basically followed the same route back. There is
no Stop Sign anywhere around the bumps. We stopped anyway at the
last white line/ bump. Some things just don't change. Be aware

a. We’re leaving from the San Francisco Bay
Area the first of November to drive to La Ribera by Los
Barriles. If anyone has something not to large please give send
us an Email and we’ll see if we can work it out. Barry

b. I plan on driving
to Los Barriles via the Baja Ferries, if anyone would like down
in your own vehicle, with me please let me know. I do not plan
on driving from Tucson until about December 17th. Also, I cross
the border at Nogales coming and going yearly with my dogs, and
have never had any problems with entering or leaving the country
with my dogs and have never had an issue with dog food, yet.
Also, if there is anyone who needs some small
packages or articles brought down to you in the Los Barriles
area, please let me know, and I will send you my address so you
can forward whatever it is you need brought down. Please
remember I don't plan on traveling to the Baja until mid
December. I speak fluent Spanish and willing to help you at the
border, at the auto permit place and anywhere else you need
translating. I travel with my two dogs, and if you do plan on
taking the Baja Ferries from Topolobampo to La Paz, you
dogs/cats need to stay in your vehicle for crossing from Topo to
La Paz. I do not need an auto permit as mine (although 5 years
old) is tied to my FM3 working papers, as long as I keep my FM3
current I never need to renew my auto permit.
There is also some documentation that you need to be aware of if you plan on driving via Nogales and then take the Baja Ferry to La Paz. I am willing to help you with all your documentation needs, but need you to let me know soon, so you can be prepared on driving to Baja via the Baja Ferries. I am willing to share all info with those who travel with me, but if all you need is info on the Baja Ferry, please check out: www.bajaferries.com, you can choose English so you can understand it better, an there are telephone numbers so you can contact the Baja Ferries office directly in La Paz, Los Mochis, and Topolobampo, and all these ladies speak pretty good English.
