works for you. If you make it easy, IT IS EASY. Try these:

For those of you that are interested in the Sling Box systems. I
have the Sling Box Pro up and running. The clarity of the picture is
significantly better than the earlier models. It will accommodate
multiple input sources from land based transmission from TV
antennas, to both satellite systems and cable systems. It will relay
programming material to the ipad and iphone as well as computers.
Remember, it requires a broadband on both ends and a pretty
expensive "app" for the iphone/ipad. I have not tried it on the
large screen TV. I expect it to be better but not the final answer
in Mexico. The Sling Box Pro HD sells for $260 on Amazon. I found a
refurbished unit a lot cheaper. The only downside is installation.
Easy if your a "Geek" but could be challenging to navigate the
system through your particular internet router on the base station
end. Only one computer can connect to your sling box at a time.
Has anyone tried the Roku box in Los Barriles? Has
anyone tried Netflix since they began service in Mexico? I should be
there in a couple of weeks to try it all. the computer guy

a.
We spent the day in La Paz and stopped in to shop at the new
Sorianna's next to Home Depot. It is very large, very well stocked,
bright and very clean. We highly recommend you stop and shop there.

I got a really great hair cut from Viri at the Salon de Cortez

she's been cutting hair there for 6 years . Thanks, Viri! Mary

If you miss getting a visa in Tijuana or where ever you cross, you
can pick one up in Ensenada. The office is located near the docks -
sorry I can't remember the name of the side street but it will be on
your right as you enter the main part of town. Office is open from 8
- 5. There wasn't anyone else there when we stopped so we just
walked in, paid the fee and got the visa. Easy - they have no
English skills but know why you're there.

(1) APOSTOLIS - A group of us ate at Apostolis last night and
echo the Ackerman's endorsement. In addition to great food, the
evening was enhanced by a terrific jazz duo that will be performing
on Saturday evenings for a limited
time. The sax and
keyboardist duo are from Argentina, and came to Baja for a gig at
The One and Only Palmilla, and lucky us, they are now performing at
Apostolis. They are set up in the new bar. Check it out.
(2)PEARL FARM IN LA PAZ - Have you ever wondered about the famous La
Paz pearls, prized world wide and included in the crown jewels of
the royalty of Spain, England and France? Last spring, twelve of us
from Los Barriles had a wonderful weekend adventure and got the full
story on a very interesting and informative tour (in English)
conducted by Dr. Carlos Cáceres, the founder of Perlas del Cortez
www.perlasdelcortez.com
, a pearl farm in La Paz. Dr. Cáceres is a professor at the
Universidad Autonoma de Baja California Sur, conducting research on
aquaculture and sustainably reviving pearl farming in in Baja. Dr.
Cáceres met us at our hotel on Sunday morning. Our first stop was at
the Museum of Anthropology for the history and importance of
pearling in Baja. Then we drove to his pearl farm in Pichilingue where
he explained and demonstrated, step-by-step, the process of
collecting and growing oysters, seeding the oysters and ultimately
harvesting the beautiful black pearls. It was fascinating. Dr.
Cáceres enthusiasm and passion for not only pearls, but our
wonderful natural environment is contagious. Thumbs up from all
twelve of us for Dr Cáceres and the tour. I was recently in contact
with Dr. Carlos Cáceres
ccaceres@uabcs.mx , and he is conducting tours again the fall.
Contact him directly to make arrangements. To make it a really
special weekend, go to La Paz on Saturday, spend the night and have
dinner at Restaurante Las Tres Virgenes (Calle Madero #1130, between
Constitution and Hildalgo).

b. Color us Yellow
Fishing the East Cape since the early 50's when 'The Colonel' began
defining Baja's blue water fishing experience at the iconic Rancho
Buena Vista Resort, the Howell brothers from Colorado along with
their remarkable 90-year-old father were in for four days of fishing
and staying at Punta Colorada. Singing the praises of the wide open
deck of the 12-1/2' beam on the Island Hopper as the best day boat
in the East Cape - and Awesome Sportfishing has the only one on the
water now, they had sent their preferred target fish list prior to
arrival; Dorado at the top, Wahoo second. Perfect, no pressure. No
dorado had been caught for weeks, maybe a month, maybe two. Dorado
don't like it hot like tuna and big blues and blacks, when the water
is literally ready to roll to a boil during summer. After all,
dorado are our most reliable and constant wintertime catch and are
with us even when the water's at 70 degrees and most other blue
water game fish have headed south. For the Howells, here's the damn
exciting, unexplainable lucky mystery of it all - by day's end on
the first day, 8 dorado flags whipped from the outriggers with the
coveted orange wahoo flag flying high. Next day, 12 yellow dorado
flags, another coveted orange wahoo flag. Third day, even more
dorado. Fourth day, five foot swells, a whipping wind and crashing
swells on the shore created havoc and sidelined the pursuit. Heading
home with coolers crammed, the Howell's booked their return, five
days in May. More dorado...more wahoo, please. If you've just
returned to the East Cape and are ready for fresh fish, we're ready
for the chase. Please email
combertheresa@hotmail.com
, call 14-10231, or drop in to the East Cape RV Resort. 'The Sea of
Cortez...Get on it!'
