MUCHAS GRACIAS SEÑOR DAVID FRANKLIN AND SEÑORA FRANCES GRANGER FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!
If you plan to come down to the East Cape coming winter season please help me to find donated boxing gloves (used or new 14 and 12oz. are the most needed, 8-10oz for ladies and kids ) will be a great help for our group, our trainer Jose Salas (from Cuba, he is now nationalized Mexican) is a great human been, he is doing a wonderful social work in La Paz keeping youngsters out of vice and kids and ladies from obesity, his fee in minimum, almost ridiculous ($50 pesos!! about 4usd a month!!) and part of that goes to keep the gym going!! We are a bout 120 people in 5 different classes from 6:30am to 8pm, from all ages, shapes and economics back grounds and most of his students CAN NOT afford to buy their own pair of gloves. And like always we can't expect any help from our government. Our little gym lacks everything, but we solve many things with creativity, but gloves, jumping ropes (we tried regular rope, but it doesn't work when you try to speed up) and bandage are the biggest issues. You can drop your donations at my father & brother's shop in Los Barriles EL OSO (ask for Fred Velasco ¨The Maestro¨ or Fred Jr. ¨El Oso¨)

NEWS FROM LA PAZ
La Paz Author R.J. Archer and Allende Books Announce Their eBook Release Party
Mark your calendars: Sat. November 26, 2011, 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
Print and Kindle readers alike will be able to meet La Paz author R.J. Archer at the release party for his fourth novel—THE SCIENTISTS—first in a new series titled Parallel Ops. Allende Books in La Paz will host the event and the author will be signing eBook covers to celebrate its release as a Kindle title.
On November 26, the Kindle eBook will be made available to all who have a Kindle reader or have downloaded the free pc-based or MAC-based software from the Amazon.com website. Those who pre-purchase THE SCIENTISTS earlier in the day and bring a copy of their Amazon receipt to the release party will receive a dedicated, signed cover of the new thriller.
In Parallel Ops, Archer’s new sci-fi adventure series, characters from his first trilogy star in their own individual novels and work independently to solve the cliff-hanger from the conclusion of the Seeds of Civilization series.
THE SCIENTISTS features Jim Barnes, the shy anthropologist introduced in Archer’s previous novel, TRIANGLE. Snatched from his quiet research lab, Jim is “drafted” by the U.S. Government to lead a team of scientists on a mission to locate and expose a multi-national terrorist group. “Artifacts discovered deep below the sea in TRIANGLE take on a whole new meaning in THE SCIENTISTS,“ explains the author.
Allende Books will also carry print versions of the first series for those who haven't read TRACTRIX, TSUBUTE or TRIANGLE. “We’re excited to be able to host a party in which the release is made available to a contemporary audience that is drawn to the digital movement,” said Kathleen Bennett, co-owner of the store, “but we won’t leave traditional book-lovers out. When the print version is released next summer we’ll carry it on our shelf beside R.J.’s first series.”
Allende Books is located at Independencia #518, between Serdán and Guillermo Prieto, next to El Angel Azul Bed & Breakfast. A wide range of English-language favorites are available on their shelves and credit cards are accepted.

ROAD REPORT

We have gotten several questions about the condition of Mex 1 north of Guerrero. Here is an up-to-date report from Bill and Sue Evants who JUST returned from San Ignacio.
Going South:
K-39, south of Maneadero: Lots of construction for road widening. No pavement. Huge holes on the side of the road have been cut in for putting in drainage ports. Some of these holes are 6 feet deep and not marked. Not recommended to drive this area at night. Construction is on-going so it will be changing often. This construction goes from a few miles south of Maneadero all the way to Santo Tomas at KM-49.
KM 106: Between El Rosario and Catavina, KM 113-130. They are repairing bridge abutments and widening them for future road widening. Many of these abutments have been chiseled out into the road and not all of them have markers. Two cars cannot pass at one of these cut outs so be aware and go slowly. There is new pavement in this area but it ends at KM 131.
KM 193, new pavement begins again but no lines have been painted on the asphalt.
KM 208, Pedregoso. They are repaving this area and there are no lane markers or reflectors. Where they are actively working, there is no pavement at all and at times only one lane is open. Pavement reopens around KM 214 but this area has not been worked on and is very rough with lots of pot holes.
AT KM 66 south of Rosarito, more road widening and continues for several miles south of the check point. There is a major detour on dirt south bound. This ends at KM 80.
Other than these specific areas, the road is is good shape and the areas that have been widened are wonderful to drive on. In many places in Baja California Sur, they have made wide shoulders for the road. We aren't sure if these are being done in anticipation of widening the road, but they are wonderful for safety.

DISCUSSIONS:

a.  (1) Kirkland dog food in the USA has meat as its first ingredient. I never actually bought any in Cabo. check it out.
     (2) The INM in Tecate is just over the border crossing heading south, pretty well marked. It's on the right. Closed after 11 PM.
If you're headed south thru Tecate, park in the parking lot of the store on the right JUST before the border crossing; and buy something so you're legit; walk thru the turnstile, get your ticket punched eg sign up for a tourist visa (that you'll pay a bank for later) or show them your passport or your FM3 or whatever; then walk back into the USA to get your car . The path back to the USA is somewhat circuitous but it's marked; you cross the street to walk through the USA Border Patrol / Customs building, and show the USA officials your passport. Just a suggestion.
If you're going north thru Tecate, just leave Mexico after waiting in line in your car; drive around to that store with the parking lot I just described, and do pretty much the same thing. There doesn't seem to be any way to conduct any of this business while you are still in Mexico! Somebody else should write in to say if there is an easier way to do either of these tasks.  richard808 at gmail dahtt com    Richard Katz Buenavista
